today i turn 33 🥳 stepping into this year with a cancer-free mom + new house + new whip + an unbreakable self love. last year was magical af 🦄 👀👇🏾

the skin tone team’s research is changing google’s products (like pixel) to work better for all skin tones. …and this is only the beginning 👀

nov 2020 i created the skin tone research team to figure out how to make computer vision algorithms see people of color. we did this work ON TOP of our regular jobs. i worked late nights + early mornings + weekends for almost a year straight! it paid off…

research shows… self-driving cars can’t see people w/ darker skin at night. facial recognition can’t tell black people apart, leading to police to arrest the wrong person. testing software used by colleges can’t recognize black + brown students 50% of the time!

summer 2020 i setup a meeting with @timnitGebru, dr. courtney heldreth, and tiffany deng to figure out how we make AI work better for people of color why? cuz artificial intelligence didn’t care about seeing black + brown people!
