Seems like in the end - depending on market - Apple dramatically limited store pick up pre-orders in favor of walk-in inventory. Have also heard some stores holding back inventory (or getting more shipments) for Saturday. In terms of today, 50-200 units on average I’d say.

🚨 An unexpected accident occurred after Sam Kohl dropped his iPhone Duo, leaving the device severely damaged. 😱
The photos show a shattered display, exposed internal components, and visible damage caused by the impact. The incident sparked reactions on social media, with AppleLeaker suggesting that Sam should be blacklisted from future Apple events. 📱💥
It remains to be seen whether this was simply an unfortunate accident or if it raises questions about the device’s durability.

There's been zero communication to Apple retail stores saying this. Perhaps a manager at select stores told employees this, but nothing like this has been communicated to date. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it hasn't.

Apple has given zero indication if there will be day one availability in its stores. If they don't clarify this in advance, there may be a lot of unhappy people who waited in line for nothing.

We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work.
At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.
We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

GTA V is running on an iPhone right now. The full game, 60fps, no cloud streaming, no emulator, no jailbreak. One guy did it in a few days, and how he pulled it off is a bigger problem for Rockstar than the game itself.
Some background first. On October 6 a site called playgta5.com let you play GTA V inside a Chrome tab. It streamed about 700MB instead of the official 105GB install, and analysts widely believe it was built from the GTA V source code that leaked in September. Take-Two killed the site within hours, but by then the browser build was already sitting on hard drives all over the world.
This developer grabbed that WebAssembly version and recompiled it into a native iPhone app. He stripped out the browser entirely and pointed the graphics at Apple's Metal, so the whole game now runs in 1.1GB of RAM. The Xbox 360 that GTA V launched on in 2013 had 512MB total.
The part I'd actually pay attention to is buried in his replies, where he mentions it "doesn't require JIT."
Apple bans apps from generating code while they run, and that one rule is why console emulators have been crippled on iPhone for a decade. Emulators translate the game live, so Apple can block them. This approach translates everything ahead of time, before the app ever touches your phone, which leaves Apple with nothing to block. A modder used the same trick in 2024 to get Majora's Mask, a Nintendo 64 game, running at 4K on PC.
Take-Two can take down a website in an afternoon, and they did. They can't take down a technique. Once a game's code leaks, turning it into a native app for any device you want is a weekend project now, and the proof just shipped on the most locked-down phone on earth.
GTA V took five years and a reported $265 million to build. The iPhone port took one bored developer a few days.
