At least one 4th-down bot had this a toss-up.
Joey's consistently made the "correct" kick-or-go choice from a math perspective over his tenure, even when it made him seem like a maniac his first couple years. He really does seem to follow the math.
Up 12-7 and facing a 4th and 2 from Colorado’s 28, #TexasTech had a decision to make. Joey McGuire decided to kick the field goal and go up 8, which was the correct call.
How Texas Tech played the game in front of them…and won.

37% of Tech Football’s non-garbage time possessions ended in a TD or FG attempt… 87th in the country.
Teams are doing a lot more with less — I don’t understand. Need more touchdown plays.

I think it's insane that a state judge can temporarily tell the NCAA they aren't allowed to enforce a rule that every student-athlete agreed to follow. I say temporarily because this is just an injunction, and I'd wager the NCAA would (will?) ultimately prevail at trial.
I also don't think betting pennies on your own team from the literal stands warrants losing out on a season 4 years later, when there's a 100% chance that the integrity of games was never compromised. It's a really harsh penalty.
It is difficult to rationalize those two thoughts. But it is possible to believe them at the same time.
Regardless, the notion that Tech Football should seppuku itself by not playing Sorsby is hilarious. After all, a conference opponent that knowingly played Sorsby lobbed this grenade into Tech's lap. And we're only a few years removed from conference realignment meaning Tech Football could be in the Mountain West or WAC. They tried (and are still trying) to kill us.
There is no honor to restore in college football.
It's sports. I just want to win. I'd run over my own grandmother if it meant Tech converted a 3rd-and-long against an in-state rival.
I'm sick in the head.
Replying to @TechHoopsGuy
Why would you be happy? Such a short-sighted reaction. That player wont be at TT forever but the damage will.
IMO, this is a favorable order for Sorsby with respect to surviving an appeal by the NCAA, because it does not include a "findings of fact and conclusions of law" section.
Simply stated, the Judge did not identify the legal basis for granting the injunction, or any specific facts relied on for same.
Couple things worth noting:
(1) the Judge has discretion not to include detailed findings of fact/law when granting an injunction;
(2) the NCAA has 30 days to request the Judge to do so (they may already have); and
(3) It's also possible that the Judge has made specific findings of fact and/or conclusions of law, but it was filed separately (this is unlikely, since the order granting the injunction would reference such findings).
Why am I fixated on this?
Firstly, I think a bare-bones order like we currently have holds up a lot better on appeal. That's great news for Sorsby.
Secondly, to raise awareness that the fight is not yet over in the district court. The NCAA will most likely try to pin the Judge down on his specific legal reasoning for granting the injunction.
I'm shocked that this was granted. Very happy, obviously, but equally shocked.
Tech Hoops scored more points per possession in ames than anyone since 2021 -- it's also the most points/poss that an otzelberger-coached team's allowed since Jan '17
apparently, toppin didnt play and anderson was in dire foul trouble the middle half of the game
every coaching award in the country should be going to mccasland & linder, someone should probably hire chris nottingham, buffington gm of the year, etc.
the guy's pressing buttons like a maniac right now, including having his highest paid player coming off the bench
here's a quote following his progrum's 6th straight loss, a drubbing as a home favorite to an in-state rival:
"some guys know how to win, and some guys (on the team that i recruited) don't, and we're doing everything in our power to teach guys how to win"
i like the current direction of Tech Hoops, which seems to be identifying winning basketball players
find someone that will look at you the way leon horner looks at a teammate after they win a scrum for a loose ball.
most points per possession allowed by a kelvin sampson team since 3/2/2008 (74-103 L to mich state).
sampson to linder:
scoring is way up in college hoops. but even accounting for that increase, we can see the mccasland + jeff linder effect.
linder's got to be the best offensive coordinator in all of ball over the last two seasons.
he also has a permanent scowl on his face. i respect that.
So apparently pop isaacs is coming off the bench at A&M and Darrion Williams is loafing it at nc state.
Grant mccasland might know a bit of ball.
Tech Football’s postgame pressers look like a rural county sheriff reporting on a drug bust with @TexasGameWarden involvement.
I like watching Lee Hunter play football. He's a 350-pound ballerina.
But it's his post-play antics that are hilarious.
You can't predict whether he's going to bonk a fallen opposing QB on the head or help him to his feet (i think it depends on where the refs are looking).
He'll carry a hurt teammate off the field and place him on the training table, but only after organizing a tik-tok-dance, post-turnover celebration with his teammates.
One thing I didn't predict in this post-apocalyptic, pay-for-play CFB world:
A successful HC and his school's Athletic Department could (should?) want that very HC shopping himself to high-profile jobs, even leaking information that the HC is very likely to leave, with max effect if this can play out during a playoff run.
Previously, this was a nightmare scenario for your high school recruiting efforts with early signing day being a much bigger deal.
Now, it's the ultimate leverage move to pull as much as possible from your donor base for future talent acquisition. The ability to pay for amazing WRs, edge rushers, cover guys, QBs, athletic tackles, etc., is the only thing that matters.
I know people are talking about Crumbl Cookie guy being a big deal in BYU/Sitake but Min Kim is the bigger deal here
Nutricost owner who is helping pay to *hopefully* keep Sitake in Provo
I’m told that “once church approves” ‘Donors’ can pay coaches salary and once do, they’ll allow Min to do it.
Min already helps pay BYU football players salaries. He helped BYU land Dybantsa
