Celeste Louw, general operations manager at the Tears Foundation, said making offenders’ names and photographs public was not, in itself, an effective child protection strategy.

When fear kicks in, it can feel like your body goes into survival mode. In a country where safety is something many of us think about every day, that fear can be difficult to switch off. Take a moment. Breathe. Reach out to someone you trust.

In SA, protecting girls cannot only mean teaching them how to stay safe. It also means creating homes, schools, communities and public spaces where they can actually feel safe. Girls deserve a childhood, not a lifetime of learning how to survive. #IntDayoftheGirlChild
Justice is essential to peace. Dignity is a right, not a privilege.
TEARS Foundation celebrates Navi Pillay for her lifelong contribution to human rights and international justice.
Survivors deserve to be heard, their dignity upheld and justice pursued.

A “yes” is only consent when it is freely given, without fear, pressure or coercion. Consent cannot be assumed, and a position of authority never gives anyone the right to violate another person.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s remember that looking after our mental health also means recognising when our environments, relationships or experiences are affecting our sense of safety.
You deserve to feel safe. You deserve support.

The fear of not being believed can make it incredibly difficult to speak about what you’ve experienced.
You don’t need to have the perfect words or know exactly what to do next. 💙
You deserve to be listened to without judgement. You can start by simply reaching out.
Women are carrying grief for those we’ve lost, anxiety for those we love, and fear for ourselves as we navigate a country where feeling safe can no longer be taken for granted.
The constant alertness, the worry, the anger and the exhaustion are real. 💙
Being a woman in South Africa can mean carrying a mental checklist that never seems to switch off.
Where am I going? What time will I be home? Is it safe to walk alone? Who knows where I am? Should I share my location? Who can I call if something happens?
The #IAmJaneDoe movement began in response to the Cornell case, women coming together to protect one survivor’s identity and say: you will not expose her.
We are Jane Doe.
We stand with survivors.
We protect their privacy.
