Long Live The Empire! 🇺🇸
BREAKING NEWS: I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns. There will be NO COST to the United States! At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America. Additionally, from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval. For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it. I am proud to be the President that permanently and conclusively addressed this very important situation. This is an “Infinite Life” Agreement, there is no end! We are very honored and proud of what has just taken place, and everything agreed to today will be cherished by the American People. We will immediately begin the process of developing a large Military presence in the appropriate part of Greenland, of which there are many. We will work with the people of Greenland in its development and construction. This solution is a great one for the United States of America, Denmark, Greenland, and all of our Allies. We look forward to working with the wonderful people of Denmark and Greenland toward a magnificent future with respect to this large, and highly strategic, parcel of land. We will be very protective of it! This is a dream come true for the United States of America, one that is very important, historic, and special. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

If you’re Canadian and under 40, there’s a good chance you’ve heard The Band without really knowing The Band.
And you might not know that four of the five members were Canadian.
Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson were all Canadian. The fifth member, Levon Helm, was from Arkansas.
Yet together they became one of the most important groups in the history of American music.
They blended rock, country, folk, blues and gospel in a way that helped shape what we now call Americana. They played with Bob Dylan, influenced countless musicians, and became enormously important to the evolution of rock music.
Then, in 1976, they decided to call it a night.
Their farewell concert took place at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom on Thanksgiving Day. Martin Scorsese filmed it, and it eventually became The Last Waltz — one of the great concert films ever made.
The guest list was ridiculous: Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and more.
But one of the moments I keep coming back to is Levon Helm singing “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”
The song tells the story of a poor Southerner watching the Confederacy collapse at the end of the Civil War — his brother is killed, his home and livelihood are destroyed, and the world he knew disappears.
The song was written by Robbie Robertson, a Toronto-born Canadian.
And there’s something almost heartbreaking about those final minutes. Helm’s voice seems to carry the weight of the entire song — the loss, the exhaustion, the sense of a world disappearing. You can see the emotion on his face as he sings it, and by the end, it feels less like a performance than a farewell.
There’s something almost perfect about the fact that the one actual Southerner in The Band was the man singing this particular song.
Four Canadians and one Arkansan, making some of the most enduring music associated with America.
This was Levon Helm.
And this is Robbie Robertson’s song.
Two remarkable musicians, and an incredible piece of Canadian musical history.

April 26, 1978, The Last Waltz was released and firmly elevated The Band into the rock music pantheon.
To celebrate, here’s one of Levon’s finest performances and the last time he ever performed “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.
