When you teach dyslexic teenagers and one of them *loudly* reads the word “tidy” as “tiddy”… On the bright side it’s a golden opportunity to discuss the difference between open and closed syllables. #teachingteens

It’s Friday. The kids have had plays, games, projects, and tests up the wazoo for the past two weeks. They were not focusing today for English. So I told them to lock in for 5 minutes, then we could go play in the gym. Which they did. I could feel the judgment from teachers 1/

And the secretary as we walked by. (For clarity- they joked with the kids about being rewarded for bad behavior. But was it a joke? I struggle with that sometimes). I think if their ADHD and stressed brains weren’t going to learn, they might as well have a break. Your thoughts?

I can’t win nowadays. I’ve been laid up this weekend with a nasty cold/flu symptoms. Can I just clone myself so I can have one clone working on all TWM all the time?

Hi everyone, Thank you all for your well wishes. Two weeks ago, my younger cousin died after a long fight with a chronic illness & other genetic anomalies. It was very sudden, and there was a lot to do to in the aftermath to help my aunt and uncle through their grief.

We said goodbye to her last Friday. As you can imagine, all personal projects (including TWM) had to be put aside for a while. I’m hopeful that the next episode can be released by the 21st.

“Mme Lockhart, you’ve inspired me to start a support group for other students, like me, with dyslexia. I wish I’d known this when I was in Gr2 but no one told me.”😢 ~Gr.9 student I’ve spoken to parents. I’ve spoken to teachers. I’ve spoken to principals. I’ve spoken to superintendents. Now, I’m speaking to high school students who don’t know enough about their own diagnosis. Students with #Dyslexia deserve to know there is NOTHING wrong with them. Yet so many feel intense shame or like it’s their fault, they’re just not trying hard enough. Last week, I spoke to a class of high school students and they ALL identified with this infographic. It’s time we educate STUDENTS about dyslexia so they can advocate for instruction that works for them!!! #StructuredLiteracy @reading_league @DyslexiaIDA

Frequently I am asked how to support struggling readers in middle and high school who were: - NOT screened for risk of reading difficulties in the elementary grades - NOT provided with early, evidence-based interventions - NOT provided with #StructuredLiteracy core classroom instruction - NOT taught to read but were given a device instead If you are a middle or high-school teacher, this resource from @MCPER_EDU may be of interest to you: meadowscenter.org/resource/1…

My family has had another death. This one was sudden and senseless. We need some time to deal with the aftermath. Episode 2 of Season 2 *should* be available October 21st. Hopefully. Thank you. It’s been a rough one.

Teaching the basics of economics? Use Monopoly to show them a mixed economy model! My middle school students needed to tell me about 1) product vs consumer, 2) the market, and 3) how much or how little the gov’t is involved. We may have shattered some friendships too… #teaching
