What do you think? πŸ‘‡ πŸ“’ The number one way for school leaders to obtain regular and meaningful feedback from staff is to regularly show staff how they've acted upon previous feedback.

What if the number of preps a teacher had equaled the number of planning periods?

I made a lot of mistakes in my teaching career. Sharing and reflecting on your mistakes can spark growth. Grow with me. 🧡

Kids learn to read by reading. They learn to write by writing. They learn to math by math-ing. The longer they sit and listen to an adult talking, the less they are doing, which means the less they are learning. Let go. Let them do. Let them learn. #SustainableTeaching

Each level in a scale is meant to have a definite meaning, but the 101 levels in a traditional % scale do not. And even IF they were ALL defined, they would be impossible to reliably differentiate. This is why the % scale leads to imprecise grading & inaccurate grades.

The premise here that more preps = tougher job is an important point that is often overlooked or ignored.

Leaders: Never waste an opportunity to tell an employee they are amazing. Far too many staff question their effectiveness because they never hear a single positive comment from a supervisor.

I don't want to hear anything else about standardized testing. I want to hear about how learners are assessing their actions against their values. I want to hear how they are evaluating the learning from a mistake. It's time we rehumanize assessment.

Homework is less valuable than a child’s extracurricular activities. They gave school 7 hours today. Now let them put their work down so they can pick up a ball, piano, play, family time. Don’t let your content trample their passions. #FridayFeeling

On the fallacy of using 0s in a percentage-based grading system to motivate learners, @Chad_mLang & I lament: Unfortunately, the same students receiving zeros in the grade book in sixth grade are often the same students receiving zeros in ninth and tenth grade. #sblchat

If you're using the same worksheets from 10+ years ago, pause and ask if it is still best for your students. Even the best lesson should be reviewed each year.
