Every Girl Deserves a Childhood, an Education, and a Future of Her Choosing!
As we commemorate the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, under the theme “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” we are reminded that no girl’s dreams should be cut short by early marriage, discrimination, violence, or unequal opportunities.
Every girl deserves the freedom to learn, the courage to dream, and the opportunity to shape her own future.
At Teach For Sierra Leone, we recognise education as one of the most powerful tools for protecting girls’ rights, challenging harmful social norms, and breaking cycles of inequality.
Through the voices of our young learners, we amplify a powerful message: Girls belong in classrooms, not child marriages. Their dreams deserve investment, not limitations.
As we celebrate their strength, potential, and aspirations, we call on families, educators, communities, and policymakers to champion girls’ education, protect their childhoods, and invest in their futures.
Because when we protect a girl’s childhood, we safeguard her future. And when we invest in her rights, we invest in the future of our nation.
Happy International Day of the Girl Child!
Powering Possibilities Through Partnership
Teach For Sierra Leone has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Easy Solar, strengthening our efforts to equip Fellows with reliable lighting as they serve in underserved communities.
Through this partnership, we procured solar lights on favourable terms, supporting Fellows with lesson preparation and daily activities beyond daylight hours, particularly in the farthest behind communities with no access to electricity.
We appreciate Easy Solar’s collaboration and support in helping us create an enabling environment for our Fellows to advance quality education.

A Landmark Moment for Girls. A Victory for the Future.
Teach For Sierra Leone celebrates the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a landmark resolution designating 27 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage.
This historic milestone places the protection, education and future of girls firmly on the global agenda and reflects Sierra Leone’s leadership in advancing the rights of girls worldwide.
We commend Her Excellency Dr Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, whose sustained advocacy and leadership helped champion this important cause on the global stage.
For us at Teach For Sierra Leone, the fight to end child marriage is inseparable from the fight to ensure that every girl can stay in school, learn, thrive and determine her own future.
As we look towards the first observance on 27 November, this recognition must inspire action, from governments and schools to families, communities and development partners.
No girl should have to choose between childhood and marriage or between a classroom and adult responsibilities.
Together, we can build a future where every girl is free to learn, lead and dream.

Today, we join the world in celebrating the passion, creativity, resilience, and leadership of young people who continue to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
This year’s theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” reminds us that achieving sustainable development begins at the community level, with young people playing a critical role in transforming global goals into meaningful local action.
At Teach For Sierra Leone, we see the power of youth leadership every day through young people who are stepping forward to lead in classrooms, schools, and communities. Through their ideas, commitment, and service, they are helping to create opportunities for children, strengthen communities, and contribute to a more equitable future.
On this International Youth Day, we celebrate every young person using their voice, skills, and leadership to make a difference. We remain committed to creating opportunities for young people to lead, innovate, inspire, and contribute to building the Sierra Leone we all envision.

They also participated in practical group sessions, collaborative activities, and reflective discussions designed to prepare them for meaningful impact in classrooms and communities.
But Institute isn’t all work! Fellows also enjoyed fun games, team-building activities, and exciting raffle draws, with lucky winners walking away with fantastic prizes. These moments of connection and celebration help foster the strong sense of cohort and community culture that defines the Institute experience.
As we look ahead to Week Two, we’re excited to continue learning, growing, and preparing our Fellows to become leaders who will expand educational opportunity for all children in Sierra Leone.

Teach For Sierra Leone has officially commenced its 5-week Intensive Pre Service Training Institute for Cohort 7 Fellows, marking the start of a transformative journey for our newest leaders in education.
On Sunday, 26th July, fellows from across Sierra Leone arrived at Mount Zion, where they were warmly welcomed by Teach For Sierra Leone staff ahead of the intensive residential training. Today, the Institute officially got underway, bringing together passionate young leaders committed to ensuring that every child has access to an excellent education.
Over the next five weeks, fellows will participate in a rigorous programme designed to strengthen their leadership, deepen their understanding of teaching and learning, and equip them with the practical skills needed to create meaningful impact in classrooms and communities across the country.
This Institute is more than a training program, it focuses on five pillars: Commitment to the Vision and Mission of TFSL, Foundations of Teaching, Personal Leadership Journey, Cohort Culture and Cross Cutting Issues. It is the foundation upon which our fellows begin their journey of Teaching As Collective Leadership, preparing them to lead with purpose, resilience, and a deep commitment to educational equity.
As the sessions unfold, we look forward to sharing stories of learning, growth, and transformation from Cohort 7.
Welcome to the journey, Cohort 7. The future of education starts here.
