Here's a useful list of where Aucklanders can get and offer help. Shout out to @_chloeswarbrick and her team for pulling it together. Things are unfolding, so details may change. Note: it has been pulled together by volunteers, so isn’t exhaustive. thespinoff.co.nz/society/29-…

They need great teaching, awesome resourcing, warmth and joy. They need teachers who can deliver well constructed lessons, within well planned units, provoking new thinking and deep consideration. They need to be learning in a context that shows it cares for them in real ways /11

A collective of us who teach aspects of social justice are getting together to reflect on how we bring social justice into the university classroom through assessments. Get in touch if you would like to join us in an informal talanoa to share our practices.

From today, Pacific women across the country effectively work for no pay until 2023. In Aotearoa New Zealand, the lowest income earners are Pacific women. Due to the #PacificPayGap, from today, Pacific women are effectively working for free till the end of the year. #thread

As my husband was in 'top stream' at high school he was only offered French & German as language options. Only 'bottom streams' were offered Te reo Māori. Labels on products are small compared to labels that have been put on #tereo Yet it survives, thrives #kiakahatereo ake, ake!

Today in 1863 New Zealand's colonial government invaded the Waikato region with the intention of suppressing the Kingitanga Movement. Wonderful historian @vomalley argues that this, more than any 20thC conflict, is the origin of New Zealand. Listen here: youtu.be/NXgdxs-lZFU

The first lesson in ldership devt is that young people need to be seen and heard. Young people growing up in adversity don’t often hear affirming messages. Impt for them to own their stories and be in relationship w adults who react w care compassion and empathy @vishaltalreja

A note for all corporates and govt departments: if you have children taking part in any of your events be it pōwhiri/performance then make sure you have kai on offer for them. As a māmā I can tell you they appreciate it hugely and it feels less like a one-way transaction.

like in the immediate future we need an education system that acknowledges the whakapapa of the knowledge being taught not one that pretends expertise on things it can't suitably approach
