Criticism is essential in Syria. It helps keep critical issues under scrutiny and strengthens checks and balances. However, critics must recognize that policymaking on the ground is far more difficult and complex than it may appear. Progress must be assessed in light of realities on the ground and Syria’s evolving reintegration into the international community, rather than against an unattainable standard of perfection. Syria is a unique case that requires conventional approaches to be adapted to its specific realities, priorities, and needs.

JD Vance: "I see what Abdul El-Sayed says about the war in Iran. I see him criticizing decisions the president has made, the military has made. But fundamentally we are where we are. In my view, I'd like to know what's Abdul El-Sayed's solution for the problem we have right now? It's easy to criticize something that happened 7 months ago."

Told @WSJ that The connection between Iran and the Houthis is very, very strong on the operational level. The relationship as one of shared strategic interest that isn’t based on a client-patron relationship, but rather on strategic cooperation.

“Civilian deaths at Riyadh’s airport and disruption to pilgrimage travel turn an abstract threat into a personal one, which definitely widens acceptance of decisive retaliation…”

An important part of the speech of Qatar's Emir yesterday was the transparency and honesty with which he describes the situation for the region
There should be no illusion that things will just bounce back to how things were in February 2026 - the Gulf will have to bounce forward into a new post-American reality
This also means there is an urgent need for a regional solution to a regional problem, with reciprocity and inclusion, involving the GCC, Iran and others

#Israel's new national security "concept" in quotes:
- "Most Arab states aren't genuine nationstates, but collections of tribes"
- "Any arrangement with Arab actors is temporary & deceptive"
- "Peace agreements are merely technical & temporary."

Syrians are still regularly uncovering mass graves, often hidden next to old IRGC military bases across Syria, and some people think Syrians would ever let this happen again.

Wrong to assume Yemen war leaves Saudi Arabia with no options but Israel
- Israel struck Houthis before
- US support not just contingent on Israel
- Many drawbacks internally for Riyadh
- Geopolitically risky for MBS
- War far more complicated than to be resolved by airstrikes

Some folks are missing @PeterSchiff’s point:
ALL government spending is paid for by citizens, through taxes, inflation, interest, AND debt (deferred tax).
The Big Beautiful Bill increased spending by $100’s of billions over the next few years, so it increased what YOU MUST PAY.

Mohamed Alhamed, a geopolitical analyst and President of the Saudi Elite Group, said that the Mecca defense pact does not “replace the Kingdom’s internal strength as it has capable security, intelligence, defense and crisis-management institutions.
Instead, he said, the alliance “moves the response beyond diplomatic statements, acts as a deterrence framework, helps secure maritime routes and creates a collective response against those that use missiles, drones, sectarian networks, or political chaos as tools of influence.”
Describing its relevance under the current crisis, he said that it “creates a platform for joint coordination, intelligence sharing, deterrence, maritime security, and collective readiness against actors who try to destabilize Muslim countries, threaten holy sites, or disrupt vital waterways and international interests in the Middle East.”
Pointing out that any direct threat to Saudi Arabia security is not just a national issue, Alhamed said that it affects the stability of the whole region, the Gulf, the Red Sea, energy security, global trade, and the wider Islamic world. And the pact gives Riyadh a “stronger political and security framework to respond with partners when threats cross borders.”
Underlining the significance of Mecca, Alhamed said that it is the spiritual heart of the Muslim world, and any attack or attempted threat against it not an attack on Saudi Arabia but “on the sanctity of Islam and on more than a billion Muslims around the world.”
Therefore, he said that while “dialogue is always welcome, the security of the Kingdom, the holy sites, and regional stability are red lines.”

The scary dynamic of the war on Iran by the US and Israel is that each belligerent is attacking the state that is weaker than it and least likely to counter-attack effectively. Thus, when Israel and the US hit Iran, Iran hits the Gulf states. The Gulf states hit the Houthis, and the Houthis hit the Yemeni government, who are allied with Saudi Arabia. Each power is kicking down.

Gaza the Revealer
The Houthis, in their empty war against Israel, over 700 days managed to kill only one Israeli, while in 5 days of attacks on Saudi Arabia they killed 19 people. Therefore, the Houthis did not strike Israel but achieved for it:
-A narrative before the world that it is under attack!
-Discharging Muslims' anger to continue the killing machine without reaction!

Listen I think if you spot a ballistic missile going Mach 20 in its reentry phase then reporting it via an app is not going to be terribly helpful
The Saudi government is now calling on the public to report sightings of small first-person-view (FPV) drones, one-way attack drones, and ballistic missiles through the @TawakkalnaApp . The reporting feature allows users to upload photos, videos, and audio recordings, identify locations, and indicate the direction of observed threats. The government is promoting the message that citizens are the first line of defense, effectively mobilizing the public to help detect and report aerial threats across the Kingdom. This week, @Saudi_Gazette reported that the Tawakkalna app has surpassed 30 billion operations and reached more than 36.7 million users.
