It's the British disease Senior leadership means never having to face the consequences Not just in devastated universities like Nottingham It's everywhere in the UK, the Post Office, NHS, Civil Service Those responsible are never held accountable timeshighereducation.com/new…

Universities contribute £6.3 billion a year to the East Midlands economy. But at the University of Nottingham, hundreds of jobs and vital courses are under threat. “Students suffer as much from this restructuring as staff.” This fight is about protecting jobs, courses and the quality of education for future generations. Education. It’s ours.

In 2021, the Uni of Nottingham spent £37.5 million buying a new campus, in central Nottingham. They then spent £40 million developing it. It is expected to be sold for £14 million. Shearer West, former Vice Chancellor moved on to Leeds in 2024. She was paid £300k+.
Nottingham was 6th for modern languages in the 2021 REF and is the only university in East Midlands providing language courses. The closure of an objectively brilliant department by a Russell Group university raises questions about the 2015 decision to uncap student numbers and leave UK HE provision entirely to market forces timeshighereducation.com/new…

£77.5m spent. £14m back. The VC behind it traded up to Leeds and a £330k salary. The staff left behind are being told to pay with their jobs. That's why we're on strike at Nottingham.

“We are ready to talk.” UCU members at Nottingham are taking sustained strike action against devastating job and course cuts. The action is having an impact. It’s in management’s interest to get around the table and resolve this dispute. Support the strike: educationitsours.org

Nottingham bought a campus for £37.5m. Spent £40m more on it. Its own accounts say it could now sell for £14m. Staff and students are paying for that. 609 jobs. Three departments. More than 40 courses. That's why we're on strike. thetimes.com/uk/education/ar…

The University of Brighton is threatening to DERECOGNISE UCU and rip up collective agreements protecting staff. This is an outrageous attack on trade union rights. We will not allow our members’ rights, pay and conditions to be torn up. Today we’re taking to the streets of Brighton with a clear message to management. ucu.org.uk/article/14642/Uni…

The rain didn’t stop us. Today we stood proud against the University of Brighton’s outrageous threat to derecognise UCU. We will not let our members’ rights be trampled on. Like and share to stand with our members and send management a message: BACK DOWN.

I’ve come to learn over time that meniscal tests are low yield generally If you suspect a meniscal tear from the story and confirming its presence is going to influence you’re treatment options, then get an MRI Meniscal tests can hurt the patient - and even cause harm in a ‘locked’ knee or flipped fragment presentation if you’re too exuberant (eg ratcheting the joint into passive extension & converting a partial to full ACL tear) The two tests I find of use are - 1. joint line palpation - this tells me if they have significant meniscocapsular synovitis which is extremely common in peripheral meniscal tears and can respond well to a joint line / capsular injection versus intra-articular 2. Observing if the patient will allow the knee to drop flat to the bed (removing a supporting pillow or arm slowly) whilst distracting them - for a truly locked knee vs guarding

15,000 jobs axed, 1000s of courses cut, campuses closing, whole academic disciplines disappearing.   Calling this a crisis isn't "bashing things that we're good at", it's raising the alarm.   UUK needs to get real, stop making cuts & start working with us to protect provision.

What a surprise. It turns out that the software system, whose cost overrun, in the tens of millions, is partly responsible for the current financial crisis at the University of Nottingham, isn’t even secure. And has anyone taken responsibility? No. nottinghampost.com/news/nott…
