Silver Plated = Any base metal with a layer of silver on top. The Silver plating will eventually tarnish then wear off - exposing the base metals underneath. This alloy is cost effective and more commonly used in costume jewelry.

Nickel Silver = Mostly copper alloyed with nickel and/or zinc. The name of this metal refers to its "silver" appearance. Ironically, this alloy's silver appearance comes from nickel. There is no silver in nickel silver.
