“Most people don’t want to compare themselves to greatness; instead, they will compare themselves to average and think they’re great.” – @CamHanes This one hit me hard. We live in a culture where comparison is constant—but it’s often convenient comparison. We don’t compare ourselves to the highest standard… we compare ourselves to what’s comfortable. We scroll, we measure, we self-assess—and instead of asking, Am I becoming who I’m called to be?, we settle for, At least I’m doing better than them. But here’s the truth:
As a Christian, my benchmark isn’t average.
It isn’t the algorithm.
It isn’t even the most successful person I know.
It’s Jesus. And yet—my ego still gets in the way.
It craves validation.
It wants to feel “ahead.”
It looks sideways instead of upward. I don’t say this from a place of judgment—I say it because I’ve done it.
But comparison to average breeds complacency.
Comparison to greatness—when done through humility—can breed growth. What if instead of asking, Am I doing better than most?
We asked, Am I becoming more like Christ? That’s the real measure.
And that’s the kind of greatness worth chasing.

This post isn’t meant to sound braggadocios or anything like that at all. I had no idea when I installed @Grammarly on my laptop that it would capture any analytics on what I typed. My desire is to try and make sure all of my typed communication is grammatically correct and free from misspelling’s. Out of the 2,912 words that I typed in texts and emails last week, these were the top tones that were detected. Seeing this list was very encouraging to me, but then a thought hit me… I wonder if the same thing can be said for the actual words that I speak. Not only professionally but also privately. My gut says there are probably some differences and that I have room for improvement. All that to say, you never know who’s listening (literally) May all of our communication be positive, uplifting, and speak life! #LetsBeGreat
