New: We found cops who kept using Flock to spy on women after they left the force.
One used it for five years after retirement, spying on his wife during a custody battle.
Another ran searches while he was suspended (and later fired) after killing a 15-year-old boy.

South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson was ousted this summer at the GOP’s party convention. She now supports the Democratic nominee who is looking to replace her.
The state is among 35 choosing their next chief elections official.

In NC-11, GOP nominee Jennifer Balkcom is airing an almost entirely AI-generated ad hitting opponent Jamie Ager for hosting drag performers at his farm in 2019.
No AI disclaimers on the ad, which features fake footage of Ager dancing with a drag queen.
Many of Obama’s opponents thought falsely casting him as Muslim would defeat him. Now Republicans run same playbook, down to thinking middle name is key to defeating him, against a candidate who is Muslim, in an age open Islamophobia is socially acceptable & shrugged away.
Illuminating exchange with a 19 year old voter in Detroit, worried about @AbdulElSayed’s name. @AJEnglish #Midterms2026 #Michigan

Dave Yost, the attorney general of Ohio until June when he resigned to join a conservative advocacy organization, was pushed out of the Ohio governor's race when Republicans rallied around Ramaswamy. His wife Darlene Yost reacts to the anti-Acton ad:
If one must sell one’s soul and reject decency to be elected to office in Ohio, then I praise my Savior and Protector that @ohiogop pushed Dave out of the race a year before the primary. Lord forgive us - and save our republic

Aug 2025: Monica De La Cruz is drawn into a Trump +18 district
Oct 2026: “Because of the dynamics of how the district was redrawn, it’s like I’m the underdog," she says
Incredible how the political winds have shifted in South Texas
NEW in @playbookdc: In one of the biggest toss ups this cycle - at the heart of the GOP's gains with Latino voters in South Texas - Rep. Monica De La Cruz is running from behind.
“Because of the dynamics of how the district was redrawn, it’s like I’m the underdog,” she told me.
To win her new constituency, she's also embracing the moments where she's broken with her own party. Whether she can hold her seat will be one of the biggest tests of how far the Latino vote really swings.
My part two on one of the most fascinating races this cycle:

I'd like to tell you a story about Michigan's elections that started in 2020 — maybe even earlier — and continues on to today.
This is the story of Antrim County Clerk Victoria Bishop.
Crucial reporting:
Please take some time today to read @Hayley__Harding's wild tale of a local election official (with a MAGA talk show host husband) who tried to cancel a bunch of voters' registrations—and how the system caught her. votebeat.org/michigan/2026/1…

Surprise surprise.
Enough Promises Ohio, the new super PAC promoting a third-party, sociliast candidate in Ohio's Senate race, is entirely funded by Conservative Americans PAC, per new filing.
That's the main GOP group that has been proudly doing "meddling" to hurt Democrats.
Fox News' final poll of Maine's Senate race finds a 49/49 tie between Collins and Jackson among likely voters.
(Jackson 50/48 among registered voters.)
The same likely voter sample says they want Dems to run the Senate by a 53/45 margin. static.foxnews.com/foxnews.c…

Secretary of state races rarely make headlines, but in most states they decide who runs our elections.
This fall, 35 states + D.C. are choosing who oversees voting in 2028. @SUAction is tracking every race. 👇

There's a lot of talk right now about what happens *after* votes are cast. So a reminder:
Bolts has a state-by-state, 50-state resource on WHO COUNTS AND CERTIFIES the results.
Always with the hope that it doesn't end up useful to know, but bookmark it:

Chris Duncan spent nearly 30 years on death row in Louisiana before a judge declared him to be innocent, finding his conviction was based on junk science. That judge is now running to lead the office that prosecuted Duncan.
