Been struggling with that tight left turn out of Gigg Lane onto Manchester Road? Quite a few of you have been in touch about it. I raised your concerns and highways have confirmed they’ve changed the layout to give drivers more room to turn.

I’m deeply saddened to hear that Pat Karney has died. Pat gave nearly 50 years of his life to serving Manchester. He saw the city through some of its toughest times and played his part in the growth and transformation that followed. I knew Pat for many years. He loved Manchester deeply and was a tireless champion for the people he represented. I’ll miss him greatly. My thoughts are with his family and everyone who knew and loved him.

So sad to hear that Pat Karney has died. A giant of Greater Manchester politics who loved Manchester and always spoke his mind. He leaves a huge gap in our GM Labour family. My thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues. Rest in peace, Pat. 🌹😔

On World Mental Health Day & World Homeless Day, sharing my recent visit to Irwell Unit and thanks to @PennineCareNHS teams. As Bury’s Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health & Public Service Reform, I know a safe home and mental health support must go hand in hand. 🫶🏽👏🏼

I don't care what anyone says, I believe we can end rough sleeping in Britain. Today is World Homeless Day, and I don't think anyone in this country should be sleeping rough on our streets. Certainly not tonight. That's why one of the first commitments I made as Prime Minister was to end rough sleeping. Not manage it. Not reduce it. End it. And I'm putting over £400 million behind a national drive to get everyone in for Christmas. And to put my own money where my mouth is, I'm making my latest salary donation from my PM salary to The Passage in Victoria, an amazing charity I visited on my very first day in Downing Street. All this will help make sure that every person sleeping rough is offered a route off the street and a safe place to stay because, in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, people should not be left to sleep outside with nowhere to turn. This isn't the finish line. We'll keep building the homes, creating the jobs, and reforming the services to stop people reaching crisis point in the first place. But today, I wanted to say this: we should never accept rough sleeping as normal. Not in Britain, not in 2026, and not while I'm Prime Minister.

I suspect the history books will show this was the moment Zack Polanski's political career ended.

I’ve been a Labour member for nearly 20 years, and I honestly think that’s the best leader’s speech I’ve heard. It felt real. Compassionate, hopeful, and clear about the issues people want us to get to grips with. Proud to be here to hear it. #HopeAgain #Lab26

What refreshing leadership from @andyburnham, “I want to speak directly to our care workers, you are not invisible to me”. #HopeAgain

Andy Burnham opens his conference speech by saying it is hard for him to put into emotions the words he feels delivering his first conference speech as prime minister 'Today we draw a line on a decade of division. We stop doomscrolling on posts running Britain down and we put the country on a new path. Britain with belief again, people with hope again. It’s very hard for me to put into words the emotion I feel standing here before you all' He says Labour will be unstoppable

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he will set out a “new direction” for the UK because the decade since Brexit had seen “too much drift, too much division”, as he arrived at his first Labour conference as party leader.
