Spent the day playing tourist in my own hometown, Sleepy Hollow 😂🎃. Visited all these historic sites I’ve driven past a million times but never actually stopped to see. Apparently you can live somewhere for 58 years and still need a sightseeing tour! 🤣🏘️

🥁 I found a stone drum! Another incredible discovery here in the Hudson Valley. 🪨 The more I explore our local landscape, the more questions I have about the stones left behind. What were these stones used for, and what stories are they still holding?#IndigenousSite
Quick question… Is the third time really a charm?? 😵💫#IfYouKnowYouKnow

~ A weekly short History thread featuring lesser-known historical figures who have left their mark on our timeline ~
In the winter of 1714, a young Dene woman escaped out of a year of hunger and captivity onto the shore of Hudson Bay. She spoke Dënesųłiné, the language of her own nation. In the lodges of the Cree who had taken her she had learned their language, nêhiyawêwin, and at the wooden fort on the Hayes River she was already picking up English. Three tongues. The men inside that fort wanted furs from a part of the harsh country they could not reach, and her people wanted trade without being killed on the path to the trading post. Between those two wants she built a peace that neither side had managed on its own. In Dene oral tradition her name means marten shake. Her name was Thanadelthur.

🎃 This October, I’m taking you into the history, legends & mysteries of my hometown—Sleepy Hollow, NY.
I was born here when it was still North Tarrytown. 👻
Let’s see what secrets we can dig up.

Today I got permission to step onto a random property, parked in the driveway, and started filming a stone wall. What I found beyond that wall was AMAZING. You just never know what’s hiding in plain sight! 👀🪨
