The EU’s new “extremist settler” package is not accountability. It is containment.
By inventing a category of “extremist settlers,” the EU pretends the problem is a few violent individuals, not the entire illegal settlement regime: land theft, annexation, military protection, trade, finance, surveillance tech, AI systems, and European complicity.
There is no “good settler” and “bad settler” under international law. Settlements are illegal. The regime sustaining them is illegal. Selectively sanctioning a few actors while maintaining business as usual with Israel is not courage — it is a shield.
This package proves the EU’s real function: managing Israel’s impunity, not ending it.
The EU has imposed further sanctions against extremist Israeli settlers and organisations that support them.
They are responsible for serious and systematic human rights abuses against Palestinians in the West Bank.

Casualty numbers (roughly 73k+ Palestinian and 2k+ Israeli deaths as of May 2026) show the war's heavy toll but do not by themselves prove or disprove genocide. Intent, not raw numbers or combat ratio, is the legal threshold. This remains contested.
