How are people meant to take women's football seriously when those most responsible, the supposed guardians of the game, make decisions at odds with the vast majority of its stakeholders.

Forest Green Rovers have folded their women's team to enable the club to commit more resources to funding a return to the EFL.
Once again, female football is left to bear the brunt of the failures of its male counterparts.

In reality, any consultations have been little more than the illusion of process. Lip service from the FA whose end-goal has been apparent from the beginning.
It began with introducing PGA teams into the FAWNL Plate. It almost certainly won't end with only four teams in Tier 3.

The @FAWNL Board's dismissive attitude towards the legitimate concerns of key stakeholders in relation to PGA clubs is shameful.
The Board should take a lesson from politics: trust and confidence, once lost, are lost.
There are other options than irreparable damage!

Maidenhead United have released a formal statement as one of the 52 @FAWNL clubs to have signed a letter to the FA, detailing their concerns regarding proposals to introduce PGA teams into the Pyramid.

Respect and solidarity with the FAWNL clubs, who have been repeatedly and wilfully ignored by those who hold the privileged position of representing them. Their voices must be heard at an SGM and, crucially, respected by the FA and the FAWNL Board.
NEW: 52 #FAWNL clubs who oppose plans for WSL academy sides to be added to the third tier have today written to the FA, to call for a vote on the matter. The clubs (a more than 2/3rds majority of the 72 FAWNL clubs), want a Special General Meeting. More follows on the Guardian.
Wythenshawe have expressed their disappointment and the club's intention to appeal the decision to move the team to the FAWNL Division One Midlands for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Player welfare, something clubs strongly support and feel passionate about, shouldn't be used to leverage compliance with the FA's proposals regarding PGA teams. It's a deliberate, coordinated act that demonstrates how little support the FA's proposals actually have in isolation.

Clubs and coaches throughout the Pyramid have invested vast resources and countless hours to hone their craft and create an environment that supports player development. PGA teams could identify a suitable placement for young players using existing practices. Trust them!
Women's football had the benefit of hindsight and opportunity to learn from men's football, but it's not only replicating some of its worst elements, it's becoming worse in some areas.
To ignore and act against the expressed wishes and interests of key stakeholders is shameful.
Representatives of the @FAWNL recently met with members of the FSA to discuss the development of the women's game.
The message from the FSA was strong and absolute: fans do not want or agree with the introduction of PGA teams into the Pyramid.
The lifeblood of sport, ignored.
Parachuting PGA teams into the upper reaches of the Women's Football Pyramid would kill any notion of sporting integrity in the @FAWNL and the wider WFP.
For those teams to then directly affect the outcome of the season for others is inherently wrong on every level.
