From Piddington to Linton-on-Ouse to Barnham to Crowborough, Labour is imposing migrant camps on communities across the country, overriding local concerns and raising serious questions about women’s and girls’ safety.

Today I got to add my voice to those of the women of Piddington, Linton on Ouse, Barnham, Crowborough and so many communities across our country fearing for their safety. It was a privilege to do so. I made myself a promise when @KemiBadenoch asked me to join her Shadow Cabinet as the Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities. I promised myself that I would never shy away from speaking up, no matter how difficult it might be. When I set out today a list - but by no means definitive list - of crimes committed by illegal migrant men, I’ll be honest it was hard to do. The stories are horrific. But I remembered that promise to myself. It is Kemi that has set me free to fight this battle for women and girls. I will be forever grateful to her for the opportunity. I will do everything I can to make sure I never let women and girls in this country down.

The women of Piddington have been ignored for too long by this Government. Just as the women of Linton on Ouse, Barnham, Crowborough and many other communities have been. Today I will move a motion in the Hpuse of Commons, along with @CPhilpOfficial, to back women over illegal migrants. To say we should leave the ECHR now, so we can deport these men, not let them roam our streets. Labour and Lib Dem MPs have a choice to make today. The women of Britain are watching.

I believe this is unprecedented. The Chief Constable of every territorial police force in the United Kingdom, including the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, alongside the non-Home Office Forces, British Transport Police, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, MoD Police, plus the Director General of the National Crime Agency and the Chief Officer of the State of Jersey Police have all joined together in calling on the Government to change the Sentencing Act. It is not just about the early release of the killers of PC Harper - although the Police Federation's petitions has now passed 950,000 verified signatures - but quite rightly these policing leaders raise the wider issues of the Sentencing Act. I am hoping to meet with the Lord Chancellor in the coming days to discuss the way forward.

This is wrong. Govt can block Pc Harper's killers' early release and ensure there's enough prison space - through emergency legislation in September: 1. Exclude prisoners jailed for 10+ years for manslaughter from early release (220 people, including Pc Harper's killers, Bowers and Cole) 2. Release on tag & curfew, after risk assessment, people jailed for up to 12 months (up to 2,700 people). All it takes is imagination and political will. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…
