Album Review for Madlife by 12K Gotti
At this point, I think people need to understand that the rappers you may not be familiar with are really good. Just because you haven’t heard of them that doesn’t mean they can’t rap circles around your favorites. 12K is one of those rappers that will give you some excellent bars and will also give you some solid production to accompany said excellent bars.
This album is a very cohesive project with a view Easter egg samples thrown in as well. The overall tone of the album is somewhat dark but also serious. It’s an album that gives you sounds that may be familiar to artists you’ve heard of before, but it’s still original in its own way. You can also say that with the aggressive lyrics it’s very in your face but that’s the appeal of it.
The production is crazy. “No Limit” has a very simplistic beat, but being able to have such a menacing tone as the bass continues to kick in is very impressive. “Send a Kite” using the Cochise sample is also hella impressive because he just destroyed the beat.
Overall if you’re really into true rap, this is an album to check out. You’re gonna get some great raps, excellent production and it’s gonna blend well. No song feels wasted, no song is worth a skip. It’s a great project from beginning to end.
Favorite Tracks: Quick Hello, Kyle Korver, No Limit
Final Score: 9.2/10
