Constructive talks on the future of the Indo-Pacific 🇹🇼🇪🇺
Yesterday, I met with Joseph Wu, Secretary-General of Taiwan’s National Security Council (NSC), at the European Parliament.
Our meeting focused on a constructive exchange of views on the current situation in the Indo-Pacific and geopolitical developments in the region.
Especially at a time of growing international tensions, direct dialogue, mutual understanding, and the exchange of different perspectives are essential. Stability, security, and peace in the Indo-Pacific are also in Europe’s interest.
Good policymaking begins with dialogue, listening, and understanding the perspectives of others. This meeting was a valuable contribution to that effort.

Taiwan’s Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao attended the Ventotene Conference in Italy together with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. As I emphasized to the Taipei Times, this visit reflects the increasing recognition of Taiwan as a partner of Europe.
Taiwan is an important friend and ally to Europe – politically, economically and technologically. And especially against the backdrop of shared challenges, this reliable relationship continues to gain in importance.
The growing number of high-level meetings demonstrates just how close the exchange between Europe and Taiwan has become. Through numerous discussions and meetings with Taiwanese representatives, I have been able to witness this process firsthand.
I am proud to be part of this intensification and to help shape the further expansion of European-Taiwanese relations.
