🚨 When you're out at your favorite restaurant this Holiday Labor Day Weekend know this, 1/2 of Texas Restaurants are NOT making money! Kelsey Erickson Streufert @KelseyJErickson with Texas Restaurants Association @TXRestaurants testified in my Senate Local Government Committee that 50% of their members aren’t making any money in the Restaurant Business in Texas! So support your favorite, but also know they're under tremendously stupid local government regulatory burdens. Them losing money hasn't stopped Cities especially from slapping crazy fees on them like, get this…🕯️"CANDLE fees"🕯️…LITERALLY! 🤯
Texas cities @TML_Texas don't need to be burning up 🔥 restaurant owners & their customer's hard-earned cash 🤑 by doing an open flame count! Really, the restaurant business is tough enough!
What do you think? Like or share if you think we should file legislation in #txlege to address this.
P.S. This slide was presented in committee showing Austin BBQ joints have to charge $19/20 a BBQ Sandwich to just make money! SEE 📸
“[Texas’] restaurant industry is shaped every day by Latin American flavors, culinary traditions and entrepreneurship,” writes TRA chief marketing officer Tony Abruscato for El Restaurante.

I enjoyed speaking in the Advocacy Lounge keynote session at the @TXRestaurants Show today! As a business owner who signs the front of the checks, I understand the economic challenges businesses face every day, especially our restaurants. Texas restaurant owners are the backbone of our communities, creating jobs, serving great food, and providing outstanding hospitality. Thank you for all you do to keep Texas thriving. Eat local. Eat often.

.@TXRestaurants, a lead partner in the "Seat the Table" campaign, released its 2026 first-quarter report revealing the mounting pressure on the state’s hospitality industry. As food and fuel costs climb, restaurant operators are struggling to stay afloat while facing a shrinking pool of available workers.
"Immigration is difficult and has had an impact on the restaurant industry [and] the farming industry, which again, then raises prices along the way," says TRA Chief Marketing Officer Tony Abroscato. He notes that while food costs have surged 35% since the pandemic, a lack of available labor is creating a secondary crisis that makes those costs even harder to manage.

Here’s why creating work permits for the long-term immigrants who have paid taxes, not committed crimes, and contributed for years is the right thing to do and crucial for our economy
Without immigrant workers and entrepreneurs, restaurants close, and communities suffer.
So we’ve partnered with the Seat the Table coalition to tell Congress: create work permits for the hard-working immigrants who make the meals you love possible.
