Cancelling your Washington Post subscription is not the way.
But cancelling your Prime subscription might be.
Sports are culture. Thank you for breaking this disappointing trend.
This is important: “The Sun already has more sports reporters than any other D.C.-area publication, and we’re picking up the high school sports coverage and metropolitan athlete honors that the Post had done for a century until this year” washingtonsun.com/perspectiv…
TL/DR: the best cheap eats are always in the suburbs. Get out of the city every once in a while, kids.
We scoured more than 200 places—from far-flung strip-mall dining rooms to old-school delis to TikTok-famous burger joints—to curate this list of our 60 favorite best cheap eats around the DC area.

So, the “nonprofit industrial complex”-waste/fraud/abuse town criers will be outraged over this, right?
Of course, they won’t.
A Florida grand jury found that Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration “misappropriated” $10 million in taxpayer money it diverted to a charity run by his wife and was later used for political purposes.

Housed, healthy people can’t afford rent/food/gas. Cicero’s Devon Kurtz says homeless people “eventually pay their bills” without housing assistance. Legislators need to realize the Cicero Institute lives in a different economic reality than constituents. nyti.ms/4isgRu8
I have a lot of thoughts about those two stories in the Post and the Times today, but my primary learning is that Robert Marbut and Scott Turner seem to have outsourced a staggering amount of their responsibilities to a third party.
How humiliating.

Hahaha. I just went to grab a coffee and stopped to ask a bunch of people struggling with addiction in the Granville area this:
“If you could go to recovery treatment for a year, receive $1,000 a month, and when you finished have guaranteed housing, access to employment and counselling, would you go?”
Every single one of them said they’d go.
One guy looked at me and said:
“You mean like a recovery house?”
Me: “Yeah.”
“Are they actually going to do that? HELL YEAH I’D GO.”
Maybe instead of constantly asking how we can FORCE people into recovery, we should start asking:
What would make people WANT recovery and give them a real chance to succeed afterward?
Housing, income, employment, counselling and community.
That’s recovery capital!
This brought back some tough memories of losing a dream job with a baby at home. We try to focus on the silver linings, but the fact is that it’s a humiliating, confusing, frightening (and probably traumatizing) experience that can absolutely change you for the worse.
For @esquire, I wrote about losing a dream job earlier this year in the same month our daughter arrived.
About the fear and anxiety of it all.
And about the clarity on the other side: esquire.com/lifestyle/money/…

A judge has ruled that HUD must vacate the unlawful 2026 CoC NOFO. What happens next is up to HUD.

BREAKING: We just won in court AGAIN to protect thousands of Pennsylvanians from being kicked out of their homes.
Today’s order stands up to the Trump Administration’s cruelty, which would have made it harder for Pennsylvanians to find safe, stable housing — even putting some at risk of returning to homelessness.
I’ll continue to stand up to this President’s efforts to kick Pennsylvanians out of their homes and onto the streets.
UPDATE: My Administration is going back to court to protect thousands of Pennsylvanians from being kicked out of their homes.
Last year, the Trump Administration tried to restrict our use of HUD funding to combat homelessness.
We took them to court — and we won.
Today, we’re again standing up against the Trump Administration’s cruelty, which would kick Pennsylvanians out of their homes and make it harder for them to find safe, stable housing. Stay tuned.

What a stupid take.
Addiction can cause homelessness. Homelessness can worsen addiction. Trauma, poverty, mental illness, and a lack of housing can contribute to both.
Anyone pretending it's only one-way doesn't understand how complex these issues really are.
Essential insight from Whitney Gent at #NAEH2026 - Persuasion happens in degrees over time. No one ever changes their mind after hearing a single message or a single conversation.
To everyone bemoaning the lack of “investigative journalism” to get to the bottom of the McConnell situation:
Investigative journalism takes time and money. If you want quality reporting, you gotta be willing to pay for your news.

Yesterday's court ruling against HUD's FY2025 NOFO changes is a powerful reminder that when we stand together, we can stop harmful policies and protect equitable access to housing resources. This is a victory worth celebrating and a reminder that our fight continues.
