I'm retiring from Radio Times next week after 26 years at the mag & more than 40 years in journalism. I've just been interviewed for RT about my career by Russell T Davies. The best leaving present I could wish for.
I love @WhitbyMuseum but do I need a tote bag bearing an image of its star exhibit, a withered hand? Actually, I think I do.

Reading a crime thriller where the author keeps using 'phased' instead of 'fazed'. Infuriating. Why does no one spot these mistakes in the edit?

Just popped down to @LedburyBooks to admire the wonderful window display by brilliant Lindsay. Can’t wait to launch #BlackThorn here on Thursday with @TVAlisonGraham 🧡

I think ticket offices at railway stations are one of those things that remind of what a society should actually be. Real jobs and real interactions , and community can sometimes be placed above shareholder dividends. It's a choice we can make. #SaveTicketOffices
Oh I miss him. If he were still alive he'd still be wonderful, still have that glorious, glorious voice, and those songs...he was a peerless, shamefully underrated songwriter. #georgemichael
Oh, this is just wonderful. Somebody To Love. His finest moment. Possibly. Thank you #georgemichael #BBC2
I moved to London roughly 30 years ago, a naif from the North, & #georgemichael was the first properly famous person I'd ever seen 'in the wild'. "Look", I said to my friend in the fancy restaurant, "that bloke looks just like George Michael....oh..."
I assume everyone on Twitter is wading through ad after ad after ad on their timeline, in my case mainly for outdoor lighting, Hawaiian shirts and private jet hire.
Re-reading my musty Adrian Mole books, probably for the first time since they came out (this is a strange off-shoot of watching the harrowing Best Interests). They are fabulous. "I think I'm turning into an intellectual. It must be all the worry."
Reading the brilliant, funny The Exhibitionist by @CharlotteMende1 & laughing long & loud at her description of a character having 'Beano knees'.
Nannyish warnings before crime dramas are so lengthy and absurdly specific - 'contains injury detail, blood and violence from the outset.' We know, it's a murder mystery, get over yourselves. #Dalgliesh
Such a treat to be sent an early copy of @AnnCleeves's new DI Matthew Venn novel, The Raging Storm, out on August 31. Ann's one of my favourite writers, so this is a real privilege.
One of my favourites in @nicolaupsonbook's splendid Josephine Tey series. So beautifully written, and with such a gut-punch ending.
#DearLittleCorpses is out in paperback today @FaberBooks Hope you love it.
So I've watched the entire #ColinFromAccounts for a second time & now I must beg @PatrickBrammall & @harriet_dyer for a second series. Please.
David Tennant should be made permanent host of #HIGNFY. He's brilliant at it.
I have binge-watched the brilliant Aussie rom com Colin from Accounts (iPlayer), I love it with my heart and soul, and I need a second series.
Sarah Lancashire - a proper star.
I love Unforgotten, but one niggle - didn't Sunny have kids in previous series @ChrisLangWriter & @TVSanjeev? Have I mis-remembered this? If not, where are they?
A spate of deaths...an abandoned housing estate dripping with menace...a young protagonist at odds with a dangerous world that doesn't understand her. Prepare to be thrilled by Black Thorn from my clever pal @sarah_hilary. Out in July. @panmacmillan
