October 1 is the national day of China on which the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949. I vividly remember the colorful celebrations of the 70th anniversary while I was in Beijing. Happy National Day for the People and government of China.

Getachew Reda, Minister Adviser for East African Affairs, took part in the Global Development Initiative (GDI) High-Level Dialogue held on the sidelines of the UNGA 81.
In his intervention, the Minister underscored the critical importance of revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development as the world approaches the final stretch toward the 2030 Agenda.
Getachew highlighted the Global Development Initiative (GDI) as a practical, results-oriented partnership that can help accelerate SDG implementation and translate shared commitments into tangible development outcomes.
He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing key transitions with catalytic and multiplier effects across the SDGs, particularly in poverty eradication, energy, food systems, finance, digital transformation, education, and climate action.
Equally important, he noted, is the need to draw on the comparative advantages, experiences, and successes of country-led initiatives, strengthening cooperation and learning from solutions that are delivering results on the ground.
He concluded by stressing that stronger partnerships, shared solutions, and renewed commitment are essential to accelerating progress toward the 2030 Agenda.

Read the joint statement issued by the OSC Staff Representation Committee (SRC) and the OSC Staff Rights and Justice Initiative (SRJI) on 15 August 2026.
@oscsrji
Regrettably, the SRC was denied access, once again. We just hope that the session discussed staff rights and solutions to pending issues.
OSC staff (SRC/SRJI) learnt that another Extraordinary General Assembly-EGA was held today. OSC staff, through the SRC/SRJI, requested access to the meeting as the most critical issue remains the salaries and benefits unpaid for over 17 months.
