Now for the big one, the Istanbul Express! - Nothing fast about it though, as it's timetabled to take a mammoth 23+hrs to cover 500+ miles from Bucharest, averaging around 22 mph (including station stops)...!!!

This train is just like being on a rail tour! Another change of locomotive and shunting of carriages, with a Skoda Type44 loco built 1977, taking us forward from Gorna Oryahovitsa.

A short hop from Vienna to Bratislava today. Catching the (OBB REX 8) loco-hauled train. Although quite modern, these have to be my favourite carriages (ZSSK Bmpeer) on the trip thus far. Both for comfort and the rather colourful interior #1970s vibe!
