57 Undocumented Foreign Nationals Among Hundreds Suspects Arrested During Operation Shanela In Tshwane
South African Police Service (SAPS) operations in Tshwane resulted in the arrest of 444 suspects in the Silverton and Garsfontein policing precincts on Saturday, 17 October 2026. The multidisciplinary operation, conducted under Operation Shanela II as part of the Safer Festive Season campaign, targeted wanted suspects, serious crime, illegal immigration, drug-related activities and liquor law violations.
The operation was led by Tshwane District Commissioner Major General Samuel Thine, with SAPS units, the Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department and Community Policing Forums participating. District detectives arrested 353 wanted suspects, including one wanted for murder, six for attempted murder, three for armed robbery, nine for rape and 93 linked to gender-based violence-related offences.
A further 57 undocumented foreign nationals were detained and handed over to immigration officials. Two people were arrested and fined for employing undocumented foreign nationals. Inspections at 13 liquor outlets resulted in one establishment being closed for violating the Liquor Act, while 24,690 millilitres of alcohol were confiscated. Two people were also arrested and fined for illegal gambling.
Visible policing operations, including roadblocks, patrols and stop-and-searches, led to six arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol, seven for drinking in public and two for indecent exposure. Police searched 420 people and 69 vehicles. Further arrests included suspects wanted for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, theft, armed robbery, business burglaries and residential burglaries.

This is absolutely INSANE! Meet Mohammed Yaseen. He was a member of an Al Qaeda group that beheaded Brit Ken Bigley.
He then joined ISIS where he worked as a guard at two mass killings and a deadly public stoning. He was arrested in Germany and served nearly 5 years in prison for being a member of Isis.
After he was released, Germany didn't deport him, so he broke into our country on a small boat because he heard we 'accept everyone'.
He was jailed for 2 years for illegal entry, then released early after 6 months. This is despite hearing in court that he 'posed a danger to the whole of the UK' and he had a 'deep and lengthy involvement in terrorism and Islamic extremist ideology'.
He's eligible for deportation, but the Foreign Office raised concerns that if we deport him to Iraq he could face 'mistreatment' for being a terrorist.
He has reapplied to stay in the UK, which halts any deportation proceedings and it will cost taxpayers' £85,000 a year to keep him here.
It get's worse... if and when he uses the ECHR to fight his case, we are potentially on the hook for another *£500,000* in legal aid.
He's been put in a bail hostel in Windsor and able to walk the streets.
