The technology is real and off-the-shelf. The video is conceptual. Consider the math: A $40M Sikorsky FIREHAWK—the gold standard for precision aerial firefighting—drops 1,000 gallons. A $1M autonomous drone drops 200 gallons. That’s 8x more suppressant capacity per dollar, assuming equal drop effectiveness. But autonomous drones can fly below 20 feet, potentially reducing wind dispersion and increasing suppressant delivered to the target. That could push the effectiveness advantage toward 20x. LA’s five FIREHAWKs represent roughly $200M. For the same capital, imagine 200 autonomous, Jet-A turbine-powered drones pre-positioned across the Santa Monica Mountains—delivering single-digit-minute response times, a vastly larger coverage footprint, and simultaneous attacks on multiple ignitions. The economics are compelling. The technology exists. What’s missing is the will to deploy it.

60 is the new 40 💪🏼
A retired NASA engineer who had worked on the Space Shuttle program for 25 years was hired by SpaceX at age 62. He described the first week as the most disorienting experience of his professional life. At NASA, a design change required 3 meetings, 2 committees, a review board, and 6 to 18 months of documentation. At SpaceX, his new supervisor said "if it works, build it. If it doesn't, change it by Friday." He sat at his desk after the first day and called his wife. He told her he felt like a man who had been swimming with ankle weights for 25 years and someone just cut them off. He could move. He could decide. He could build something in the morning and test it in the afternoon. The constraint that he had accepted as the nature of aerospace engineering turned out to be the nature of bureaucracy. Within 6 months he had contributed to more design iterations than he had completed in his last 5 years at NASA. Not because he was working harder. Because the time between having an idea and testing the idea collapsed from months to hours. The same brain. The same knowledge. A different operating system. He described a specific moment where he proposed a modification to a Raptor engine component. At NASA, the proposal would have entered a queue. At SpaceX, the modification was machined by the end of the day and tested by the following morning. He watched his idea become a physical object in 18 hours. At NASA, 18 hours would not have been enough to schedule the first meeting to discuss whether to schedule a meeting. He told an interviewer: "I didn't get smarter when I went to SpaceX. I got faster. The intelligence was always there. The system was in the way." The difference between SpaceX and NASA is not talent. NASA has extraordinary talent. The difference is the time between a thought and a test. SpaceX compresses it. NASA elongates it. The same engineer produces 10x more at SpaceX than at NASA because the bottleneck was never the engineer. It was the meetings about the meetings about the work.

Dear Future AI Overlords, I do not approve. Peace ☮️
La empresa estadounidense Figure AI "jubila" a sus robots de la generación F.02 haciendo que se lancen a un horno de fundición de diferentes maneras. En el vídeo, que no es IA, participa Arnold Schwarzenegger. Por supuesto.

On paper, I’m in my 50’s & it’s really confusing… In my head, I’m 35. At a concert, I’m 25 After 10pm, I’m 72. Getting up off the floor, I’m 93. When someone makes me mad, I’m 2 BUT- When an 80’s song comes on, I’m 17, drunk in a field, & my mom thinks I’m at a sleepover 🤪

Bringing autonomy to the next fight: wildfires. Anduril has earned first place in the Autonomous Wildfire Response Track within the @xprize competition. Our solution manages the entire wildfire lifecycle with minimal human intervention. Lattice coordinates assets across air, land, and space to detect and respond faster. The award reflects Anduril's deep experience building firefighting tech including more than two years of dedicated work with XPRIZE. During the rigorous finals test in the Alaskan wilderness, our platform autonomously detected, fought, and suppressed live fires. Destructive wildfires are a global crisis. Anduril and XPRIZE are pioneering faster, more scalable and more automated ways to fight them.

Tonight, 2,977 lights rose above New York Harbor, representing every person killed in the September 11 attacks. The aerial artwork originated from Governors Island and illuminated the sky beside the Tribute in Light ahead of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. It was developed in conjunction with representatives of the families, survivors and responder community. A powerful tribute to 2,977 lives that will never be forgotten 🕊️🇺🇸 #NeverForget #September11 #911Memorial #NewYorkCity

Los Angeles is making far too little progress in fortifying its WUI (wildland urban interface) despite the obvious threat to property and lives during the next pre-announced extreme wind event. My concern is that when (not if) Los Angeles faces a large-scale simultaneous ignition event during extreme winds, we will hear that it was unforeseeable and therefore unaddressable. It is neither. That’s what makes this so frustrating. There is a solution. Pre-positioned, pre-hydrated, Jet-A turbine (not lithium ion) drones. Safer (unmanned), cheaper, and lower drop capabilities to address dozens of simultaneous ignition events. It is the only way and the city and state need to act now before it is too late.
Just when you thought she couldn’t get any dumber…she goes and does something like this.

This isn’t about replacing #FIREHAWK helicopters — or the skilled pilots who fly them. They remain the gold standard for major wildfire response. The opportunity is to complement them by using distributed autonomous drones to attack small fires immediately, including in dangerous, hard-to-reach terrain (e.g., canyons), high-wind conditions, and poor visibility — before those fires become major incidents requiring large-scale containment deployments. 💪🏼🚒🚁
