I used to drive the later models up and down the interstate going 70 mph like it was nothing. The M1151A1 with the 6.5 turbo diesel and 4L60e would fly compared to an old M998
I served with a guy named Jared Davis in the Marines and everyone said he looked like Joker from Full Metal Jacket.
A self-portrait taken on the set of FULL METAL JACKET using my Rolleiflex's self-timer in 1986.
Although never spoken in the film, Private Joker's real name is J.T. Davis (as seen on the back of his PT sweats). He was named after Specialist James T. Davis, the first U.S. casualty of the Vietnam War. He was killed in action on December 22, 1961.

That recall has been out for as long as I've been shopping at Harbor Freight. If you're still using the defective ones, you're forcing Darwin's hand.
One of the best jobs I ever got was just by bullshitting with the guy on the other side of the gas pump one morning. I said, "Let me know if you guys need any help."
He said, "Can you read a tape measure? Get in the truck."
The absolute best way that I have ever found cash work has been by helping contractors load their materials at the "pro" bay at Lowe's.
Literally stick a lunch and a gallon of water in a backpack, show up at 5am, and start helping guys load lumber and such into their trucks.
Don't ask if they need help, just jump in. In my experience they will always accept the help gladly and without hesitation because the morning crowd is in a rush.
While loading, ask: "so what are you working on today?"
They'll tell you, then say: "do you need an extra set of hands today? I'm looking for work and am ready to go."
I'm telling you, after having done this hundreds of times, I have found work every single day that I have ever done this. All of the work was same-day-pay, all cash, and usually led to more work as long as I worked my ass off on day one. I have never been scammed out of pay doing this.
My rate has generally been $125 per 8-hour day. I've gone as low as $100 -- and I've had guys pay me as much as $225/day when they were impressed by my effort.
Especially lately, as migrants are in short supply, this is a golden opportunity for anyone short on cash but high on muscle and get-up-and-go. Speaking a little Spanish helps but isn't required.
Seriously, if you're young, broke, and strong -- try it. It was my primary means of supporting myself for almost a decade and even now, years later, I genuinely miss it.
I used to run to pick up a pinecone when it fell out of the tree so I could say I was the first person to ever touch it
I think the world has always been this shitty, but prior to the internet and 24-hour cable news channels, the newspaper only had so much space to print it.
It seems like the definition of a Millennial kept moving the goalpost for most of the early 2000s. I think I was 25 before I knew I was a Millennial. When I was a teenager, people called all teenagers Gen-X, so that's what I thought I was.
Replying to @VanessaNewyorkr @DrunkRepub
Well, most people that think they’re Gen X are actually millennials, but they’re not Gen Z.

Shout out to everybody that's real excited about an NFL preseason game tonight that's gonna turn that thing off after 10 minutes because they remember preseason football sucks.
It was the Vice Principal, and he could only do it if the parents signed a consent form at the start of the year.
One of the older teachers had his paddle hanging on the wall from back in the day when individual teachers could spank students, but that was before my time.

Nothing tops Lou Brown pissing on Dorn's contract and walking away without a word.
#tbt: Years later and people still come up to me and call me Pedro Cerrano! We had such a fun time shooting Major League. What is your favorite scene in the movie?
We could get rid of neckties just as easily
Not to be dramatic but the fact that full grown adults with jobs and mortgages can't read or write cursive is genuinely one of the weirdest silent collapses in modern literacy. We’re talking about people who can't read the Constitution in its original handwriting, can't read a letter from their own dead grandfather, can't read the original Emancipation Proclamation, probably can't even read their own birth certificate. And this is a writing style that's been around since OLD ROMAN CURSIVE, almost 2,000 years of continuous human handwriting, gone from an entire generation in two decades. It’s actually embarrassing that people don't know their own ancestors script and feel zero desire to learn it, but will binge Netflix for six hours and rot their brain on TikTok without blinking. We all have internet access and free time, there are hundreds of free tutorials, and it's insane that the curiosity just isn't there.
How bad were everyone else's pies that they were getting spanked by store-bought?
This woman in our local church had been winning the pie table for years.
Apple, cherry, pecan, pumpkin. Every church event, there she was in a cardigan and pearls acting like she'd just casually thrown together six perfect pies before sunrise.
People talked about her crust like it was a spiritual experience.
My wife never trusted her.
Her: Nobody's that relaxed with lattice.
I didn't know what that meant, but I respected the suspicion.
This all blew up at the fall bake sale when the woman brought in eight pumpkin pies and arranged them on the table with that same smug little smile she always had.
Then a seven-year-old boy walked up holding one of the pie tins and said:
Him: Why does your homemade pie say Costco on the bottom?
The whole room went quiet in a really satisfying way.
She snatched the tin a little too fast.
Her: That means nothing.
The boy turned it over.
Big white sticker. Not subtle.
Costco. Pumpkin pie. Family size.
My wife actually grabbed my arm.
Her: I KNEW IT.
Another woman leaned in and said:
Her: Check the pecan.
Now it became a search party.
Three women started lifting pies like customs agents.
Two more stickers.
Then somebody checked the cardboard box under the table.
Costco.
Eight pies.
No shame.
The pie woman tried to recover.
Her: I improve them.
My wife: With what?
Her: Nutmeg.
My wife: That's not baking. That's editing.
I had to look away because I was laughing.
Then the best part happened.
The pastor's wife, who had eaten these pies for years and publicly praised this woman more than once, picked up a plastic fork and said:
Her: Well. They're still good.
And honestly, she wasn't wrong.
People kept buying them.
Madder now, but still buying them.
That's church for you.
The woman didn't come to the next two bake sales, which everyone pretended not to notice while noticing very hard. Then she showed up at Christmas with brownies and a handwritten sign that said:
“Prepared by me.”
Not “baked by me.”
Prepared.
Very careful wording.
My wife bought one just to support the honesty.
Then whispered to me in line:
Her: Those are from Sam's Club.
I said:
Me: Let's let the woman live.
My first introduction to SC was Parris Island when I was 18, so I'm gonna agree to disagree with its placement at No. 3
Whoever named the roads in my town has some explaining to do

I had to make a tool from a technical drawing that specified using a milling machine to make a channel ending in a 0.345" radius, +.05" -0.0"
I ended up drilling it to 11/16" and cutting the channel with an angle grinder, then sanding everything smooth. It passed inspection.
