Happy 66th Independence Day, Nigeria! 🇳🇬 Today, we celebrate the land of our birth, the giant of Africa, and the home of limitless potential. 66 years ago, our founding fathers and mothers dared to dream of a free and sovereign nation. Today, we stand on their shoulders, honouring their sacrifices and upholding their legacy as we forge a new path forward. Nigeria is not just a country. It is a spirit. It is a people. It is a promise. We are a nation of innovators, entrepreneurs, creatives, and resilient souls. Our diversity is our strength, and our shared hope is our bond. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are witnessing a new dawn — an era of bold reforms, massive infrastructure, and economic transformation. We are building a Nigeria that works for every citizen, regardless of tribe, tongue, or faith. As we mark this 66th milestone, let us remember: 🇳🇬 We are stronger together. 🇳🇬 Our best days lie ahead. 🇳🇬 Nigeria will rise, and we will rise with her. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria! More than 10,000 people in Oke-Oyi are already benefiting from reliable power, including six health facilities and schools, alongside businesses and households using electricity to work, produce and create new opportunities. Alongside our partners, we commissioned the EU-funded 581kW interconnected solar mini-grid, with even greater impact expected as productive use expands across the community.

Under our Renewed Hope administration, Nigeria remains open to partnerships that deliver meaningful benefits at home and create opportunities for our people. I welcome the agreement signed in New York by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake @AlakeDele, and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to deepen American investment in Nigeria’s mining sector and help unlock the potential of our mineral resources, estimated at about $700 billion. From the beginning, we made a deliberate choice to move Nigeria away from simply extracting and exporting raw minerals. We tied new mining licences to local value addition and have worked to attract investment into processing and refining here at home. That policy is already producing results. New processing plants are being established, billions of dollars in investment commitments have entered the sector, and investor interest in Nigeria’s critical minerals continues to grow. Our ambition now is to deepen this progress across the entire mining value chain, from exploration and extraction to processing, refining and manufacturing. At every stage, Nigerians must benefit. Our geologists, engineers and technicians must find work. Our young people must acquire new skills. Local contractors, transporters and suppliers must have opportunities to build businesses. Processing closer to where minerals are found should bring industry, infrastructure and better livelihoods to mining communities. We are also changing what Nigeria sells to the world. We want to process more here, manufacture more here and export higher-value products. The agreement with the United States builds on the progress we have already made. We welcome partners who bring capital, technology and expertise and are prepared to create value with us here in Nigeria. Our mineral wealth must create Nigerian jobs, grow Nigerian businesses and bring greater prosperity to the communities where these resources are found. This is how we turn the reforms we have made into opportunities for every Nigerian. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President @NGRPresident @NigeriaGov

An Open Letter to Alhaji @atiku Abubakar: Sir, How Exactly Will You Fund the Subsidy You Promise to Restore? Dear Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, I write as a voter, not as an opponent. You are the ADC candidate for 2027 and have reaffirmed that you will restore a targeted petrol subsidy. Your team has also described a production-linked model: preferential crude to qualifying Nigerian refineries, capped, budgeted and audited, with the benefit required to show up in product prices. Hardship at the pump is understood. What is still missing is the public arithmetic. Each question below stands on its own. - If PMS is held below the economic cost of supply, who pays the difference per litre? - What is the estimated annual fiscal cost, and at which pump price is that estimate built? - Will the cost be funded from crude-oil revenue, tax, borrowing, FAAC, spending cuts, or money creation? - You now describe a shift from import subsidy to production subsidy. What is the Federation’s opportunity cost of selling crude to refineries below market value? - How will that opportunity cost appear in the federal budget so it is not hidden off-book? - Who qualifies for preferential crude, and on what production, efficiency and domestic-supply conditions? - How will you independently verify that cheaper crude becomes cheaper products, not extra refinery margin? - How will the scheme be audited, and how will middlemen be locked out? - What is the cap, in naira and in barrels, and who may raise or suspend it? - What happens to the model if oil prices fall or crude production slips? - The Federal Government says subsidy removal and related reforms mobilised about ₦15.8 trillion for the federation between June 2023 and December 2025. If subsidy returns, what replaces that fiscal space? - Of that ₦15.8 trillion, about ₦5.4 trillion was attributed to the Federal Government and about ₦10.4 trillion to states and local governments. Do those higher shares continue under your plan? - States were reported to have received about ₦9.17 trillion in additional allocations from June 2023 to December 2025 against the pre-removal run-rate. Do they keep that extra flow? - Local governments were reported to have received about ₦6.66 trillion extra over the same period. Do they keep it? - FAAC has risen from a few hundred billion naira a month before removal to figures above ₦2 trillion, with a reported ₦3.007 trillion shared in July 2026. What happens to that monthly run-rate? - If FAAC falls, how do states fund salaries, pensions, schools, hospitals and roads at current levels? - Would your government cut FAAC to states and local governments to pay subsidy? If not, name the replacement revenue. - In the first half of 2026, FAAC gross revenue was about ₦18.72 trillion and ₦12.59 trillion was disbursed. Which of those numbers changes first under restored subsidy? - What happens to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway? - What happens to Section V of that highway in Akwa Ibom and the sections already under construction beyond Epe? - What happens to the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, including Section IV in Oyo? - What happens to the Calabar-Ebonyi-Abuja Superhighway / Trans-Saharan route, including Section II through Benue, Kogi and Nasarawa? - What happens to the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri corridor, including the Gombe-Biu section? - What happens to the Abuja-Lokoja and Enugu-Akwanga corridors? - Will those projects continue at current scale, slow down, be cancelled, or be completed with new borrowing? - The finance scorecard also assigned large extra outlays to wages, external debt service and strategic infrastructure. Which of those three yields first if subsidy spending returns? - About ₦3.14 trillion was cited as additional electricity subsidy support in the same period. Do you keep power support and restore petrol subsidy together? From which revenue? THE CONCLUDING PART BELOW

Then and Now – Nigeria's Economic Transformation Under President Tinubu. In just over three years, Nigeria has undergone a remarkable economic renaissance. The numbers tell a story of courage, reform, and tangible progress. "From 27 states unable to pay salaries to ZERO. From $35 billion to $52.5 billion in FX reserves. From ₦31 trillion to ₦150 trillion in stock market capitalisation. From 24.82% to 17.52% in food inflation. These are not promises – these are results. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took the tough decisions that were long overdue. The reforms have brought pain, but they are also bringing gain, and the numbers prove it.
