.@CNN covered the close of #TiedeVLumpkin — the federal trial that could mandate AC across the largest prison system in the US.
270+ heat deaths documented. 80,000+ people without access to adequate cooling. A ruling expected before summer.
We've been in this fight for a decade. We're not stopping now.

Recap: Answering the Call Event
On September 23, 2026, TPCA participated in the Answering the Call event at St. David’s Episcopal Church. Looking back, we want to thank everyone who joined us, shared the event, listened deeply, and stood with incarcerated Texans and their families.
Together, participants, faith leaders, and partner organizations experienced the 7-Minute Mock Cell, a full-scale replica of a Texas prison cell, heard stories through the Prison Conditions Exhibit, honored loved ones in the Memorial of Stolen Lives, and gathered in prayer during the Interfaith Vigil with clergy and faith leaders across traditions.
This event, and every person who shows up, is why we continue this work. Your presence helps ensure that those behind prison walls are seen, remembered, and treated with dignity.
Visit tpcadvocates.org and follow us on social media for future events, updates, and ways to take action.

No one should have to endure dangerous heat behind bars. At Middleton Unit, loved ones report conditions so severe that it feels like 135°F inside, with no AC.
Prayer is powerful, and so is using your voice. One meaningful step you can take: Find & Contact a Faith Leader and ask them to speak up for humane, safe conditions for people in prison.

YES, you heard and read that right: we won a major round.
A federal court ordered air conditioning for every Texas prison. This victory belongs to every impacted person, family, advocate, volunteer, and loved one we carry with us. But the fight is not done. TDCJ plans to appeal, and Texans living and working inside prisons still need enforceable humane-temperature standards, funding, and accountability.
The next round starts now. Take action and tell your legislators: humane temperatures cannot wait.

Extreme heat in prisons leads to increased violence, suicidality and mortality for the incarcerated. It also leads to high turnover among correctional staff.
This week, @LuisSantosTX testified in support of reforms that would help TDCJ complete installing ACs in Texas prisons. #txlege
A federal court ordered TDCJ to air condition every Texas prison unit by 2029. TDCJ's own plan puts the cost at $1.5 billion. Now lawmakers must fund it. We're at the Capitol making sure they hear from impacted families. #85toStayAlive #TPCA #PrisonConditions #txlege
