Not sure how it works where you are, but many PCI reports I see end with a somewhat self-absolving statement about "excellent procedural success", based largely on the operator’s visual estimate (i.e., the judgment is in the eye of the beholder). Well, this study shows that when success is defined using standardized criteria and assessed by a core lab, things look quite different and success rates drop substantially.

1/2 Our updated meta-analysis of intravascular imaging guidance publ in JACC. Since our last synthesis in Lancet 2024, there have been 6 new RCTs with 8,670 additional pts. Total is now 28 RCTs with 24,634 patients with mean FU 22 mos. Should be enough for a definitive answer!

International Day for Interventional Cardiology: the first coronary #angioplasty
On 16 September 1977, Andreas Grüntzig & his team made history, and changed the lives of millions of patients forever.
Standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before him, this transformative vision led to an entirely new field of medicine.
What began nearly five decades ago with coronary angioplasty has grown into the broad field of interventional cardiology, transforming cardiovascular care through research, innovation and technological progress.
As the field has evolved, so has the need to learn from experience, share knowledge and shape what comes next. Join us in 2027 at #EuroPCR to mark this landmark moment!

Presented at #ESCCongress:
Among patients aged 65 to 80 years undergoing #TranscatheterAorticValveImplant for severe aortic valve stenosis, monotherapy with a factor Xa inhibitor non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant reduced hypoattenuated leaflet thickening on 4-dimensional cardiac computed tomography vs acetylsalicylic acid monotherapy.
These findings suggest that anticoagulation may improve prevention of subclinical leaflet thrombosis after transcatheter aortic valve implant in selected patients.

We describe using a small volume (0.3–0.8 mL) of propofol 1% emulsion as an off-label lipid lubricant to rescue:
1️⃣ Stingray balloon guidewire lumen fatigue (ADR)
2️⃣ Microcatheter inner lumen resistance
3️⃣ Retrograde externalization with non-dedicated wires
A practical, low-cost solution to restore lubricity without device exchange.
