The 30y UK gilt interest rate just crossed 6%. We are now in an era where the government cannot afford to spend more than the economy can afford. Government must now live within its means, cut rates for businesses, and let the productive economy drive growth.

Gwynedd already has the power, under section 47 of the Local Government Finance Act 1988, to give extra business rates relief on empty High Street units. Footfall isn’t high enough to justify the rates, and there aren’t enough open shops to create the footfall. That’s a doom loop. Local government can intervene. Time-limited relief to get units occupied or refurbished would be a start. Use the power.

We had a close look today at the problems affecting Bangor High Street with Christopher James O’Neil. Empty units, unrealistic business rates, a cracked street and tight access rules are holding the town back. This high street deserves better. We need lower rates for small firms, repairs and easier access — not managed decline.

Heard from several North Wales business owners this week: energy bills and planning delays keep coming up as the biggest drag. New units going up in Bangor and Conwy are welcome. They’ll only fill if we also cut the costs and paperwork that stop firms from expanding. That’s the bit Reform will keep pushing in the Senedd.

Small businesses are the backbone of the North Wales economy. Lower taxes + less bureaucracy = more jobs and opportunity. That’s what Reform is fighting for in the Senedd.

Local business owners in Conwy, Anglesey and Gwynedd — what’s the single biggest barrier you’re facing right now? Tax, planning, energy costs, staffing?

bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gy… The 182-day rule was meant to free up homes for local people. On Anglesey it has left brand-new houses empty. Planning conditions stop families buying them as homes, while the tax rule has killed the holiday-let market. Empty properties in Bangor Conwy Môn help no one.

We forced the Welsh Gov's supplementary budget to fall, the first time a budget has failed to pass in the Senedd. Our demands were clear: - Guarantee our trainee nurses a job. - Stop sending taxpayers' money abroad. - Properly fund children with additional learning needs (ALN).

The UK Government must ensure Wales is fully included in the grooming gangs inquiry. This isn’t just an English issue. Every allegation must be investigated. Every victim must be heard. Every offender must be brought to justice.

I recently asked Wales’ First Minister what he would do to make sure that the next inevitable attack from an asylum seeker didn’t take place in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Rather than demanding a proper answer, the BBC asked if the question was racist. ❌ Awkward questions aren’t racist, they’re just awkward. #reform

Finally, I had the chance to return the favour after my own by-election… and visit sunny Clacton! The media, the British state and the old parties have mounted a vicious and desperate campaign to stop Reform UK. At all costs, it seems. We can’t call a General Election, so rather than submit to a kangaroo court in Parliament, Nigel Farage has handed the power back to the people of Clacton. P.S. Clacton was once one of the safest Tory seats… now they won’t even field a candidate against him. Wonder why?

Plaid Cymru are distracted chasing more powers instead of delivering with the powers they already have. Their latest push into non-devolved broadcasting has been met with a simple message from the UK Government: stop wasting time and money, and get on with the job.

.@TJohnClark tears into Labour's Huw Thomas in the Senedd. The tourism tax won't fund tourism. It will just plug holes in council budgets. And Huw Thomas knew it.
