I'll feel confident in myself and think I'm cool and interesting and fashionable and people would want to talk to me but I go to conventions alone and talk to no one and feel like a ghost and realise I might as well just be wearing a badge that says "NOTICE ME". Also I'm British.

gaster knows we the player want a gaster fight so there will be a gaster fight regardless of the circumstances

Idk why people act like final boss gaster is so crazy. As if "teenagers kill god" isn't the most jrpg ending of all time

My take on Gaster's morality is that I believe him being a Toby/writer analogue is a crucial part of his character. Obviously Toby isn't evil for making his characters suffer... but if the characters themselves knew about him, how would they feel? #DELTARUNE

DELTARUNE as a whole is an exploration of this concept, IMO. I think that's one of the reasons for the Lightner merch rule too.

Extra bit: Gaster allows the Weird Route to happen, but it's ultimately Toby's idea, his story. You have people debating on the ethics of it (and No Mercy): does it make you a bad person? Likewise, does it make Toby a bad person for implementing it? It's what the game is asking.
