ARCASH, Day 19 🎃
ARCASH is the first tech project built on the ARC network where you can earn USDC simply by participating in a living, evolving economy.
This is not a static city or a decorative simulation. The entire city changes according to what is actually happening inside the simulation. Citizens have routines, jobs, families, transport, weather, seasons, businesses, public services and a calendar that continuously affects how the city behaves.
And now, as October moves forward, ARCASH is already preparing for Halloween. 🎃
Here is everything that has changed on Day 19:
👨👩👧 PEOPLE
Nobody under five goes out alone anymore. Toddlers only leave home with a parent who lives with them, is currently free, is travelling on foot and stays close to home. They also return home together.
Babies can now travel in pushchairs pushed by their parents.
Brothers and sisters walk home from school together.
Schools follow a real calendar. They close at weekends and during summer, Christmas and Easter holidays. On Saturdays, instead of seeing children sitting in classrooms, you will find them around the city and in the squares.
Citizens who have a free morning may go running in the park.
People visiting parks, taking a lunch break or simply spending time outside can sit on benches. Before 11 AM, around half of them may be reading the morning newspaper.
Clothing now follows the season. Scarves appear during winter and short sleeves during summer.
Some elderly citizens now walk with a stick.
👷 WORK
School playgrounds are now supervised. Two teachers stand watch at the corners of the yard during every break.
Night guards physically stand outside the buildings they protect. A maximum of two can be present and guards are relieved every hour.
Builders now wear hard hats.
Delivery vans arrive outside markets before opening time.
Ambulances and fire engines no longer appear randomly. They drive into the city from the nearest station.
Markets and taverns lower their shutters when they close.
Office towers now follow actual office hours.
🚌 THE STREETS
Buses stop directly at shelters and passengers wait underneath them while their bus moves through the route.
Every bus shelter now has an advertisement that lights up after dark.
Cars give way to pedestrians at zebra crossings.
Drivers turn their lights on during rain, snow and mist.
Every district gets a street sweeper at dawn, leaving the road wet behind it.
When snow is on the ground, gritters replace the sweepers and spread salt through the streets.
Taverns now place terrace tables outside during the warmer months.
Not everything in the city works perfectly either. Around one street lamp in forty is failing and flickers after dark.
🌧️ WEATHER AND SEASONS
Clear winter nights can now leave frost across lawns, rooftops and car roofs.
Cars produce visible exhaust steam in cold weather.
Snow settles on vehicles and buildings.
Pedestrians gradually tread the snow away from pavements while lawns remain white for longer.
When rain stops while the sun is low, a rainbow can appear over the city.
Residents hang washing from balconies in the morning and bring it back inside before evening. They will not hang it outside when it is raining.
Kites appear on dry afternoons.
Starlings gather above parks at dusk during winter.
Gulls fly above the waterfront.
Park fountains switch off during winter.
Sprinklers operate on summer mornings.
Autumn creates piles of fallen leaves around the city.
Flags react to the real wind direction.
Tower cranes operate during the day, moving their loads around construction sites. At night, they turn naturally with the wind.
📅 THE CALENDAR
The city now understands the calendar.
And this is where things are getting especially interesting.
We are approaching Halloween, so during the final week of October pumpkins begin appearing outside people's homes. 🎃
In December, Christmas starts spreading through ARCASH.
Around one illuminated window in every six will contain a Christmas tree.
Markets and taverns will decorate themselves with coloured Christmas lights.
And when New Year's Eve arrives, fireworks will launch across the city at midnight. 🎆
✈️ AROUND THE CITY
Airliners now cross the sky.
During the day they leave contrails behind them.
At night you can see their navigation lights moving across the darkness.
A river bus now operates along the waterfront.
During summer, sailing boats also appear on the water.
ARCASH is becoming less like a simulation you simply watch and more like a world that continues living whether you are looking at it or not.
Weather affects people.
Seasons affect clothing.
Time affects businesses.
The calendar affects the city.
Jobs affect where citizens go.
Families affect how they move.
Public services respond from actual locations.
And the economy gives players a reason to become part of that world.
The goal is simple: build a living onchain city where participation has real economic value and users can earn USDC by taking part in its economy.
Halloween is coming.
The city is already getting ready. 🎃
ARCASH keeps evolving.

ARC DOESN’T OFFICIALLY LAUNCH UNTIL SEPTEMBER 16.
I ALREADY LAUNCHED A PROJECT ON IT.
Arc, Circle’s new financial network, is about to open its doors and I wanted to build something there before almost anyone else.
Meet $ARCASH.
Every single building in ArCash represents a REAL HOLDER.
Your wallet becomes a bank. Your bank becomes a physical building inside the city. Hold more $ARCASH and your bank becomes bigger, more luxurious and more important.
And most importantly:
THE BANKS EARN USDC.
Trading fees accumulate inside the enormous ArCash Central Bank and every 2 hours part of that USDC is distributed across eligible holder banks.
The holder list literally becomes a living financial city.
New holder? New bank appears.
Buy more? Your building upgrades.
Sell? Your bank can downgrade or disappear.
There are also robberies, guards, shields, market events, Bull Run Days, Bear Days and a city that physically reacts to what happens onchain.
You do not even need to actively play. Holding is enough to become part of the world.
BUT HOW DO YOU GET USDC ON ARC BEFORE SEPTEMBER 16?
This is the interesting part.
You can already obtain USDC on Arc before the public launch through:
unstabletrade.com/
The process is basically:
1. Go to unstabletrade.com
2. Select USDC on Arc
3. Choose an available offer to move from Ethereum USDC to Arc USDC
4. VERY IMPORTANT: check the rate and premium before confirming
Right now liquidity is extremely early and some sellers are asking crazy premiums. I have seen offers where Arc USDC costs as much as 70% more.
So please do not blindly buy just because you want to be early.
If you find a reasonable rate, great.
If the rate is ridiculous, my recommendation is simple:
WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 16.
Once Arc publicly launches, buying and moving USDC should become much easier.
Being early is fun.
Paying $1.70 for $1 of USDC is not.

$ARCASH, Day 18
A big one. Everything below is live , and every bit of it is switched by what the simulation is actually doing: who is home, who is out, the calendar, the weather, the hour.
THE LIGHTS ARE PEOPLE.
At night every home lights as many windows as it has households with somebody home and awake, and they go out one by one as people go to bed. The office towers now keep office hours: bright through the day and evening, down to the cleaners and the night desks at four in the morning.
THE SKY KEEPS THE CALENDAR.
Days are short in winter and long in summer: dark until half past eight on a December morning, light until half past eight on a June evening. There is a moon with real phases, rising later each night, and stars on clear nights. Some autumn and winter mornings start in mist. A heatwave afternoon goes warm and hazy. The street lamps come on one at a time as the dusk deepens.
THE SEASONS.
Snow settles on roofs, pavements, lawns and treetops, and the roads turn to slush. Leaves fall in autumn and drift with the wind; in a gale, litter blows along the street. On cold days a thin line of smoke rises from every home with somebody in it.
SCHOOL.
Children are in class, not standing in a corner of the playground all day. They come out before the bell, at the morning break and over lunch, spread across the yard in little groups, and a third of them run about. When it rains, break is indoors.
THE STREETS.
Every second crossing on every bus line has a shelter, and the buses stop at them to pick people up and set them down. Cars give way to people on the zebra crossings. Headlights are two soft beams, on at night and in daytime rain, snow or mist, and off when a car is parked. On a soaked street, feet and wheels throw up water.
SHOPS AND HOMES.
Markets are lit while they are open and their shutters come down when they shut. People queue at the market door instead of standing inside the shop. On warm summer evenings some of the people at home step out onto their balconies.
FIXED.
Gardeners now work two to a park; before this, one person in four on the street was a gardener. People on the Central Bank's raised plaza are no longer sunk into it up to their hair. Factory chimneys no longer make glowing white balls. The payout clock and the Connect wallet button are back on screen on laptops and phones.
THE CITY HAS A SOUND.
On a computer there is a Sound button at the top. Nothing in it is a recording: traffic as loud as the cars near you, the murmur of the people around you, rain, wind, thunder after the lightning, birds by day, crickets on warm nights, children at break, sirens at a new emergency, hammering at building sites, music through a tavern wall, footsteps, a dog barking, bells for a wedding, one slow bell for a funeral, and the city hall clock striking the hour.
TRIED AND DROPPED.
Bicycles. The city runs 24 times faster than your screen, so a short ride lasts eight seconds and you would need a cyclist doing 60 metres a second.
The bankers have asked whether all this counts as an improvement to the city or as noise. The answer is on its way.

ARCASH, Day 17
Day 16 was about making the city look lived in. Day 17 was about making it behave like it.
Everything below is live at arcash.tech/city, and all of it comes from what the simulation is actually doing.
THE LIGHTS ARE PEOPLE.
Homes used to go dark at night whoever was inside. Now every residential building lights as many windows as it has households with somebody home and awake, and they go out one by one as people go to bed. Mostly lamps, now and then the blue of a television. At four in the morning the street is dark except for the few who are still up. The windows are a census, not a texture.
SCHOOL.
Children at school used to stand outside it, fifty of them squeezed into one corner of the playground, all day. Now they are in class. They come out before the bell at 8:00, at the morning break at 10:30 and over lunch at 12:30, spread across the yard in little groups, and a third of them run about. If it rains, break is indoors. Then the bell goes and the yard is empty again.
THE WORK FORCE.
Gardeners now work two to a park. Before this, one person in four on the streets was a gardener in uniform, and thirty-three of them were pruning a paved square. The rest of the crew is at the depot, where gardeners belong.
THE BANK PLAZA.
The Central Bank stands on a raised stone plaza, and everyone on it was being drawn at street level, so all you could see of them was their hair. They now stand on the stone, and climb the last two metres at the edge like steps.
THE STREETS AT NIGHT.
Headlights used to throw a pale rectangle on the road that did not even turn with the car. They are now two soft beams that widen and fade ahead of it, and parked cars have their lights off. Factory chimneys had been piling ninety puffs of smoke onto each other until they made glowing white balls in the sky. They now smoke like chimneys, and the smoke gets dark at night. The gold lamps that flare over each bank when a payout rolls across the city are gold again instead of white.
THE CITY HAS A SOUND.
There is a Sound button at the top. Nothing in it is a recording: the traffic is as loud as the cars moving near you, the murmur is the people standing around you, the rain is the city's rain, the wind is the wind the trees are already bending in, and thunder follows the lightning by a few seconds. Birds by day, crickets on warm nights. Zoom out over the city and the street goes quiet and the wind takes over.
FIXED.
On a laptop screen the payout clock and the Connect wallet button had slipped off the right edge, and on phones they were missing altogether. Both are back where you can reach them.
TRIED AND DROPPED.
Bicycles. The city runs 24 times faster than your screen, so a three-minute ride across a few blocks lasts eight seconds. To show it you would need a cyclist doing 60 metres a second. We decided the city is not ready for that.
The bankers have been told the city now makes noise. They have asked whether it can be priced.

ARCASH, Day 16
Last week we taught the city to keep records. This week we taught it to look like somebody lives there.
Everything below is live at arcash.tech/city, and every bit of it is driven by what the simulation is actually doing. Nobody is an extra.
THE PEOPLE. Every citizen has a new look: rounder, friendlier, with faces. If you prefer your citizens realistic, add ?style=sims to the address and the people near the camera become fully modelled humans: 216 of them, 44 haircuts, 189 pieces of clothing, each matched to the citizen's own age, sex and skin. We also built an inspector that refuses to publish anybody without shoes, anybody wearing half an outfit or a child in heels. It was needed. At one point the catalogue had dressed 24 men in skirts.
WHAT THEY DO. People now stop to talk, check their phones, turn their heads, hurry when they're late, sit down when the wait gets long and carry their shopping home. Children play in the parks. Pigeons work the markets. On snow days there are snowmen and snowball fights, and at night some of the tavern regulars take the long way home.
When something happens in the city, you can see it happen: a wedding in the park with the guests walking over, a funeral, a moving van, an eviction, a surprise party, scaffolding on a building that burned, a graduation. None of it is scheduled for show. It appears because it happened to someone.
Couples now go out together. On some evenings, if your partner is home and free, they come along, hand in hand, on foot or on the bus, and only one of you pays. Children under eleven are walked to school by a parent.
THE STREETS. Every car on the road belongs to a citizen and drives them where they are actually going. Cars brake at red lights with their brake lights on, show tail lights at night and indicate before they turn into their street and before they pull in to park. One avenue in four is a bus line, and passengers walk to the stop. Until yesterday they walked there at 22 metres per second. They now walk at 1.4, like people.
THE CITY MAKES RUBBISH. Every building has bins, trucks collect them on a daily route, and it all goes to a landfill and a recycling plant west of town. When bins overflow the bags end up on the pavement. Tidy citizens use the bins. Careless ones leave the bag where they stand, and it stays there.
THE WEATHER. The sky is the simulation's sky. Rain soaks the streets and leaves puddles that ring with drops and dry out slowly afterwards. Trees move in the wind, from a breeze to a storm at 52 km/h. Storms bring lightning. Below 7 degrees, you can see people's breath. Balconies have plants, chairs and washing on the line, and the washing comes in when it rains.
THE YEAR. ARCASH now has seasons, on a 365-day calendar. Leaves turn and fall in autumn, trees stand bare in winter, blossom comes out in spring and the avenues get lights in December. It no longer snows in summer, which it used to do. Today is day 536 and it is early summer. It is raining.
UNDER THE HOOD. Asking the city who is standing around you now takes 0.4 seconds, down from 2. Every change to the simulation this week ran against its full test suite before it shipped.
The bankers have been briefed on the seasons. They have already asked whether winter counts as a risk factor on a mortgage.
We’ve also added furniture to the interiors of the houses, along with activities that actually take place inside them.
Residents can now cook, sleep, watch TV, and interact with their homes through different everyday activities.
The city isn’t just alive on the streets anymore. Life is happening inside every home too.

THE BUTTERFLY FILE, No. 1
One vote at the bankers' desk, and everything it set in motion. Every line below is on the city's record.
Day 332. Brandt Builders asked the desk for a loan. Five banks voted. The banks at 0xef41…c85a, 0xc2e9…f7f3 and 0x0ffb…0226 put four stakes each behind it, 0xe984…bab4 added one, and 0xbd08…450a said no. Approved, 13 to 1.
Day 335. Three days later Brandt Builders defaulted and went bankrupt. Thirteen people lost their jobs the same day, the owner, Elias Brandt, among them. All thirteen were on the dole before it was over.
Day 337. Nature abhors a vacuum and so does the building trade. Eight rival builders, Rossi, Duarte, Kovacs, Kaplan and four more, grew 21 times over the next four weeks and hired 24 builders. Not one of them had ever worked at Brandt.
Day 340. Oscar Brandt, one of the thirteen, and Felix Alvarez split up. The ledger gives the firing as the cause.
Day 344. Twelve days after the vote the city went back to look at Elias Brandt, as it promises to. Alive, out of work, rent paid up, 578 credits. The firm, closed.
Day 422. June Haddad, another of the thirteen, moved from Southwest Terraces to Northeast Rise for the cheaper rent. Ninety days after a vote she never saw.
Five banks, one afternoon, one click. The city is still writing down what it did.

ARCASH Development Log: Day 15
The city now makes rubbish, has opinions about it, and its citizens finally move like people.
THE CITY TAKES OUT THE TRASH
• Every household produces real waste every day: more per adult, less per child, more in richer homes
• Every residential building has its own bins: general, paper, glass and plastic
• City refuse trucks work a two-day rota, street by street, stopping at every building
• A landfill and a recycling plant stand outside the city, joined to it by a haul road
• The landfill grows with its real tonnage, and gulls circle over it
• Each household recycles more or less depending on how conscientious its citizens are
• Miss a collection and the bins overflow. Bags pile up, litter runs down the pavement, and the district is declared filthy
• Filthy districts lose prosperity. Rats bite people there
• Careless citizens dump rubbish in the street. Bin crews go on strike
• When the landfill fills up, the bankers vote: dig a bigger hole, fund more recycling, or pretend it isn't happening
CITIZENS THAT FEEL ALIVE
• Standing people check their phones, fold their arms, put their hands on their hips, check their watches and talk with their hands, switching every 20 to 40 seconds
• The elderly take shorter, slower steps. Children bounce as they walk
• Heads turn on their own: glancing at shop windows, looking down at a phone, checking a wrist
• One walk in eight is spent staring at a phone. One in twenty is a jog because somebody is late
• People standing together face each other and take turns to talk while the others nod. Groups of three or more form a circle
• Friends who pass in the street wave at each other, and the simulation knows who is actually friends with whom
• In the rain without an umbrella people hunch over or cover their heads. In the cold they rub their hands
• Shoppers walk home with a paper bag in each hand. In the morning some leave home carrying the rubbish
• In a heatwave people fan themselves. After a long wait some sit down on the ground
LOVE, NOW AUDITED
• Two 100,000-citizen cities ran side by side to stress the relationship system
• First daily relationship phase: 1,097 eligible couples, 205.98 expected formations, 204 formed (99.04%)
• All 204 matched across three independent records: couples formed, couples moved in together, persistent partner records
• Zero phantom relationships, zero duplicated partners, zero unexplained people in households
• Nine consecutive sealed observation windows with every accounting residual at exactly zero
• A simulation run killed halfway was rejected and both cities resumed from the last valid checkpoint. No half-written future made it into the record
• 1,021 test files and 3,837 test cases passing
We did not lower the courtship rate to make the graph look calmer. Changing the rules to hide a result you don't understand is how simulations become decorative spreadsheets.
Soon an ARCASH citizen will be able to lose their job, get divorced, move back in with their parents and discover their ex now owns a more successful hot-dog stand, while the bin lorry is late for the third day running.
Day 15 complete.
The auditors have reached the dating market. The rats have reached East Docks.

ARCASH Development: Day 14
Today had two halves: teaching 100,000 citizens to fall in love properly, and making the city itself a lot more dangerous to live in.
LOVE, WITH EVIDENCE
We audited seven simulated days of romance across a 100,000-citizen world: more than 3 million records, checked against sealed daily checkpoints.
• 25,453 new relationships
• 50,906 citizens involved
• Nobody started two new relationships in the same week
• The database came out of the audit byte-for-byte untouched
Twelve older relationships don't add up yet. They are logged for investigation, not rounded away.
Then the real experiment. We built two matched 100,000-person cities that differ in one thing only:
Family Society: 45,000 households, 27,000 children, 26,000 couples from day one.
Adult Society: 100,000 single adults living alone. No couples, no kids, no family.
Same engine, same economy, same calendar. Now we find out what families actually change: friendships, dating, isolation, births, spending, housing, migration.
Relationships can't just appear because a random number felt romantic. Two citizens should meet because their lives crossed, not because the database needed another couple. One overexcited romance setting doesn't make a cute love story. It makes a demographic emergency with mortgages.
THE CITY GOT DANGEROUS
55 kinds of random life events now hit named citizens, about a dozen a day, and every one has consequences.
The builder who falls four storeys may not get up. The hand that goes into the machine ends a career. Lightning, carbon monoxide, food poisoning traced to a named kitchen, pensioners scammed out of their savings, rumours that cost you your good name, bar fights over the mayor.
It isn't all bad luck. Lost wallets come back, or don't, depending on who finds them. Strangers pay for your shopping. A neighbour pulls you out of the river and is your friend for life. Proposals get a yes four times out of five. The fifth is remembered by both of them forever.
CAR CRASHES YOU CAN SEE
Fender benders, junction crashes, drunk drivers, cyclists hit by a car door, pensioners through shop windows, teenage joyrides. Every crash now leaves a wreck on the street in the 3D city for a few hours: hazard lights blinking, an ambulance or police car behind it.
NO CAR WITHOUT AN OWNER
The traffic used to be decoration. Now every car on the road belongs to a real citizen driving a real trip. Tap any car and it tells you who is behind the wheel, and you can follow them home.
A FASTER CITY
The map was lagging. It turned out the city was busy saving its own memory every two seconds and checking it again straight after. Fixed: citizen positions now load in about 0.4 seconds instead of 2. Citizens flickering in and out of existence is also fixed. They now leave the street by walking away or getting in their car, like normal people.
Day 14 complete.
The civilization is learning to fall in love, crash its cars, and pay for the damage.
Welcome to $ARCASH City.

$ARCASH, Day 14
We've been asking a fairly awkward question:
what happens if 100,000 citizens arrive in ARCASH City with actual families instead of each appearing as a financially independent adult who lives alone?
Today we ran a fresh 100,000-citizen test world with a different starting population. It produced 45,000 households: single people, couples, single parents, families with one or two children, and homes shared across generations. There are 27,000 minors and 53,000 recorded parent-child links.
Those links belong to persistent citizen identities; they aren't labels added to the picture.
The family system also has consequences at birth. Children can inherit genetic traits from their parents, take a family surname, and carry some personality tendencies forward.
Minors don't begin with adult jobs and wages. That gives the simulation a foundation for recognizable families whose histories can diverge over time.
Then we stress-tested whether this population could fit in the city. All 100,000 citizens received a canonical home across 1,409 residential buildings.
Every one of those buildings had a certified entrance, with no residential building overlapping another home or a civic building. After saving and restarting the entire world, the citizens, household structure and family records still matched.
The comparison is revealing: our ongoing 100,000-citizen campaign began with 100,000 one-person households. This family-based test begins with 45,000 households instead. It changes the shape of the city and the starting conditions for relationships, schools, work and the economy.
This is an isolated test result, not a claim that the live city has switched profiles. The next job is to let these families live through multiple simulated days and audit what actually happens to their education, employment, money and relationships.
ARCASH now has enough family connections to make Thanksgiving uncomfortable. The bankers will probably try to package that discomfort into a mortgage-backed security.
Speaking of the bankers: they now run City Hall.
Twice a real day a dossier opens about somebody who actually lives in the city. A named citizen or a named firm, at the numbers their own ledger says, with their real record attached. Twenty kinds of question so far: back rent, a repeat thief, a landlord raising every rent he charges, a bed for the hospital ward, a levy on the richest firm in town, a term of school for the worst school in the city.
Every option says what it will do before anyone votes. Hold ARCASH and your wallet is already a bank: open City Hall and sign. It is a signature, not a transaction, so it costs nothing and nothing leaves your wallet. Three banks make a quorum. If nobody turns up, the stated default applies, and that goes on the record as a decision too.
The first one of the new kind closed this week. The Southeast Rows school had 96 children, 10 teachers and the worst school quality in the city. No bank voted, the default funded the term, and the desk wrote down what it bought: "Paid. The return on this is measured in somebody else's wage, years from now." The one before it, a loan for Brandt Builders, went through on five votes.
Twelve days after every decision the city goes back and writes down what became of the person it was about, citing the vote. Voting moves money inside the city. It does not change what your bank is paid; that comes from what you hold and nothing else.

In $ARCASH, your decisions matter.
Every day, you’ll be able to make two decisions, and you’ll be responsible for the lives of thousands of tiny AI citizens that make up the city.
A single decision could make your bank earn more or less over the next few hours, but it could also permanently affect the city’s economy.
And it goes much deeper than that.
A series of bad bankers making bad decisions could eventually push the population to extinction.
At this point, we can start thinking of the city and its population as a living ecosystem.
Built on @Arc.
ArCash has a desk where the holders decide things, and from today it has a great deal more to decide.
Twice a real day a dossier opens about somebody who actually lives in the city. Not a poll. A named citizen or a named firm, at the numbers their own ledger says, with three lines of their real history attached: the jobs they lost, the rent they missed, the company that failed, what they lost on meme coins.
Fifteen kinds of question so far. Back rent on a flat. A thief the city has already fined twice: thirty days inside, or the treasury pays for a month of honest work and finds out. A landlord asking to raise the rent on every door he owns. One more bed in the hospital ward. A levy on the fattest firm in town. Compensation for everyone robbed this month, paid out of the same treasury the thieves' own fines went into.
Every option says what it will do BEFORE you vote. A decision with hidden consequences is a coin flip, not a decision.
How to take part: hold ARCASH and your wallet is already a bank in the city. Open City hall and sign. It is a signature, not a transaction. No gas, nothing leaves your wallet, and it costs you nothing. Three banks make a quorum. If nobody turns up the stated default applies, which is also a decision, and it is on the record as one.
What it moves: real money inside the city. The treasury pays or it does not. Rents rise or hold. A firm has its debt restructured or called in and its people keep their jobs or join the queue. It does not change what your bank is paid. That comes from what you hold and nothing else.
And twelve days later the city goes back and looks. Whatever became of the person you decided about is written into the public ledger citing your vote: alive or dead, working or not, rent up to date or behind, and what is left in their purse.
You will not always like what it says.

ARCASH Development Report Day 13
Today we worked on something less glamorous than flying cars, but much more important:
Making the city capable of remembering what happened without having to rewrite the biography of every single citizen every time the mayor sneezes.
GOVERNMENT ACTIONS NOW PERSIST EFFICIENTLY
The mayor’s influence on district prosperity is now stored as a precise state change.
When a valid mayor improves their district, ARCASH saves only the affected world state.
If the mayor no longer exists, the city correctly clears the position instead of preserving a ghost politician forever.
Both scenarios were tested with 1,000 and 10,000 citizens, including full shutdown and recovery.
Even simulated politicians eventually have to leave office.
Real ones are still investigating this feature.
CARS ARE NOW TIED TO ACTUAL CITIZENS
ARCASH currently has a canonical registry containing 2,913 privately owned vehicles.
When a real vehicle is travelling through the city, it can carry:
• Actual owner
• Vehicle registration
• Model
• Destination
• Trip purpose
• Route position
• Estimated arrival time
Decorative traffic is no longer allowed to pretend it has an owner or open useless “Owner not recorded / Destination not recorded” panels.
We also forced a new browser module version, preventing old cached traffic code from returning from the dead like a highly leveraged zombie company.
SCHOOL PERSISTENCE WAS HEAVILY OPTIMIZED
Previously, the school census could force ARCASH to prepare a checkpoint for practically the entire city.
Now it saves only:
• The city’s school statistics
• Institutional teachers whose workplace actually changed
In a controlled simulation with 10,000 citizens, the old system could touch more than 20,000 partitions.
The new system touched exactly:
120 teachers
1 world partition
121 partitions total
The recovered city matched the original state exactly, both during live recovery and after a completely cold restart.
Schools can now update without the database experiencing the educational equivalent of a bank run.
WEATHER AND HERO CITIZEN PERSISTENCE
Weather transitions, exposure history and Hero Citizen promotions now use precise persistence scopes as well.
A weather change saves one world partition.
Promoting eight real citizens into the Hero cognition pool saves those eight citizens plus the world-owned cognition state.
The city no longer republishes everybody’s life because it started raining.
VALIDATION
Today’s releases passed the complete ARCASH validation suite:
• 982 test files
• 3,706 automated subtests
• Canonical vehicle identity verified
• Cold recovery verified
• Live recovery verified
• Economic closure preserved
• No invented owners, destinations or financial events
ARCASH is becoming faster without making the simulation shallower.
The goal remains absurd:
A persistent autonomous city where 100,000 people can study, work, drive, form families, make terrible financial decisions, become mayors, ruin local prosperity and leave enough structured evidence for their descendants to blame them accurately.
Welcome to $ARCASH City.

ARCASH DEVELOPMENT DAY 12
Today was less about adding another shiny building and more about making sure an entire synthetic civilization can survive years of simulated history without crashing, corrupting itself or quietly becoming economically insane.
ARCASH now has a resumable long-term simulation runner capable of advancing the city toward exact 10, 25, 50 and eventually 100-year validation horizons.
The current ten-year target represents:
6,574,500 simulation callbacks.
Because apparently creating 100,000 digital people was not complicated enough.
We also need to audit every terrible financial decision they make for the next century.
The new system divides time into controlled segments and creates permanent receipts for each completed period.
If the machine stops, the process crashes or the simulation is interrupted, it can resume from the last verified point instead of restarting civilization from day one.
Every segment is checked using:
• Atomic checkpoints
• Source and configuration fingerprints
• Exact event frontiers
• Cold restart verification
• Tamper detection
• Annual reconciliation
• Persistent simulation receipts
The city is now keeping records like a paranoid accountant who suspects everyone, including the calendar.
Today’s real 1,000-citizen validation campaigns processed hundreds of thousands of simulation callbacks and generated millions of canonical events.
These are actual state transitions produced by the simulation:
• Jobs
• Purchases
• Relationships
• Movements
• Health events
• Business activity
• Demographic changes
While profiling the run, I found something beautifully stupid.
After every simulated day, the validation worker was rereading and hashing the ENTIRE history of the city.
Imagine finishing Monday and, before going to sleep, rereading every newspaper ever published since the city was founded just to make sure Tuesday is allowed to happen.
That historian has now been removed from the daily shift.
ARCASH now uses incremental chained proofs during normal operation and performs the full historical reconciliation at annual boundaries.
The evidence remains strong, while the city no longer spends most of its life checking that yesterday existed.
The result:
• One representative segment fell from 24.74 seconds to 18.57 seconds
• A later segment fell from 34.25 seconds to 25.49 seconds
• Roughly 25% faster
• Cold recovery and verification remain intact
• Restart and proof overhead on a 352 MB authority fell to roughly one second
We also found a real butterfly effect inside the validation infrastructure.
Changing a reporting option altered runtime cost.
Runtime cost affected a scheduling budget.
That changed the simulated trajectory and eventually produced one additional event.
One performance setting had literally created an alternate timeline.
The configuration identity now includes that reporting mode, so two runs with different execution conditions can never pretend to be the same historical campaign.
The realism auditor also became much more useful.
It now persistently tracks:
• Births
• Deaths
• Loan defaults
• Citizens entering the city
• Citizens leaving the city
• Net migration
• Exact event counts
• The processed historical frontier
It processes only new events after the last verified checkpoint, so it does not repeatedly scan the city’s complete history.
In the latest confirmed validation window, the city recorded:
• 3 deaths
• Net migration of +3
• 0 births
• 0 loan defaults
Three citizens died and nobody defaulted on a loan.
The banks are calling this a successful quarter.
These metrics are stored across crashes and resumes, protected by bounded validation rules and covered by automated tests.
The combined horizon and realism test group currently passes 65 separate checks.
No production history was rewritten today.
Every obsolete or superseded simulation authority was preserved as evidence.
When a campaign configuration changed, we created a new historical authority instead of quietly modifying the old one.
The ten-year campaign is still running.
I am not going to declare victory because a progress bar moved several pixels.
Day 12 was about making ARCASH capable of proving that its society remains coherent over time.
People must be born.
People must die.
Citizens must migrate.
Businesses must survive or fail.
Loans must be repaid or defaulted.
And when the economy finally destroys someone’s life, the database must at least record it correctly.
Built on @arc.
Welcome to $ARCASH City, where even the butterfly effect has an audit trail. 🐇🏙️

$ARCASH will be entering this.
As you know, ARCASH is our simulated city, built to compete with some of the most advanced simulation frameworks and models out there, including GAMA, AnyLogic, NetLogo, Repast and MASON.
This is not a short term project.
ARCASH is designed to remain under continuous development for a long time, becoming an increasingly complex simulation of a living city, its economy and its citizens.
Every $ARCASH holder becomes a bank within the city.
Banks make decisions that directly interact with the simulated economy and the city they operate in, while receiving passive USDC rewards generated by the ecosystem.
And today we want to make one thing very clear:
Any reward received from this opportunity, no matter how small, will be used 100% for $ARCASH buybacks and burns.
Every single cent received will be used to buy $ARCASH from the market and permanently burn those tokens.
No team allocation.
No redistribution.
No treasury accumulation.
100% BUYBACK & BURN.
We are building ARCASH for the long term.
Look up!!!

DAY 11 BUILDING ARCASH CITY
Today was mostly about something players should never have to think about: making sure a persistent city of 100,000+ citizens can survive complex updates without corrupting its history, duplicating events or quietly inventing money.
We built and validated a new atomic persistence architecture for ARCASH.
Every important simulation update may involve several connected changes:
• A citizen’s state changes
• New historical events are recorded
• A death or cemetery visit creates permanent records
• Relationships and family links change
• Businesses, debts or homes change state
• The new world generation becomes authoritative
All of those changes must either happen together or not happen at all.
There can be no situation where someone dies but remains employed, visits a grave that was never created, pays a loan that does not exist, or becomes a homeowner because SQLite had a spiritual awakening.
Today’s work included:
• A fail-closed SQL phase guard that detects unexpected database writes
• Atomic rollback tests across events, graves, world generations and checkpoint heads
• Cold-restart recovery after deliberately interrupted saves
• Idempotent retries that do not duplicate events or financial effects
• Corruption detection for world data, receipts, bindings and event frontiers
• Preservation of cycles, Maps, Sets and shared identities inside the world graph
• Typed symbolic bindings for database-generated IDs
• A late-binding sidecar that stores generated event and cemetery references safely
• Tests proving caller mutations cannot alter an already prepared checkpoint
• Full-suite validation across 982 files and 3,716 subtests
We also benchmarked the system against a real retained ARCASH world containing 100,012 persistent citizen records.
The first architecture was correct, but slow:
• World recovery: 5.52 seconds
• Checkpoint preparation: 6.65 seconds
• Finalization: 7.09 seconds
• Peak memory: roughly 1.96 GiB
Correctness passed. Performance politely filed for bankruptcy.
So we built a late-binding sidecar architecture.
Instead of reconstructing and serializing the entire world while the database transaction is open, ARCASH now prepares the immutable world first and records only the small generated bindings during publication.
On the same 100,012-citizen world:
• Transactional publication fell from 7.09 seconds to 345.70 milliseconds
• No full-world encoding occurred inside the transaction
• No full-world decoding occurred inside the transaction
• No additional traversal of the citizen graph occurred inside the transaction
• The authoritative source remained completely unchanged
• The additional final-world memory buffer disappeared
That is a reduction of roughly 95% in the measured transactional phase.
The remaining problem is checkpoint preparation, which still takes around 6.52 seconds because it walks more than 13.27 million graph nodes.
The next architecture is already being prototyped: partition-level symbolic sidecars.
The idea is simple:
If one citizen visits a grave, ARCASH should update the affected partition.
It should not interview all 100,000 citizens, inspect every household and audit every sofa in the city before saving one cemetery visit.
The first isolated partition prototype is already passing tests for:
• Changed-part-only preparation
• One-time cryptographic recovery proofs
• Generated event and cemetery bindings
• Cycles and shared references
• Maps and Sets
• Rollback at every precommit fault point
• Safe retry after an uncertain commit
• Corrupted sidecar rejection
• Detection of mutations omitted from the declared dirty partition
Production V2 remains disabled until the complete 5,000 and 100,000-citizen latency gates pass. ARCASH will not trade reliability for a pretty benchmark screenshot.
Meanwhile, the wider civilization roadmap continues:
• More purposeful citizen activities
• Better pedestrian movement
• Real destinations for vehicles
• Homes with semantic interiors
• Businesses and internal currency
• Loans, mortgages and defaults
• Crime, prisons, protests and strikes
• Genetics and recognizable families
• Transport, weather, illness and culture
• Long-horizon simulations covering multiple generations
The objective remains absurd:
Build a persistent autonomous society where 100,000+ citizens can live complete lives, create families, earn money, lose money, start businesses, destroy businesses, inherit debt and eventually be buried with a cleaner balance sheet than most crypto projects.
Nobody writes their stories.
The simulation does.

In just 10 days, you’ve watched the city go from something almost lifeless into a place filled with buildings, traffic and thousands of people living their own lives.
So let me explain this strange city again.
Every wallet that buys $ARCASH becomes a bank inside the city.
Literally.
A construction crane arrives and builds your bank.
The longer you hold without selling, the larger your building becomes, eventually growing into a skyscraper, and the more capital it can generate.
Payments happen every 2 hours.
But your rewards don’t depend only on volume.
You are a banker.
You log into the website and make decisions.
Approve a mortgage.
Reject a loan.
Finance a business.
Foreclose on a property.
Take more risk.
Protect your bank.
Those decisions affect how much your bank earns.
But there is another layer.
The decisions made by EVERY banker affect the economy of the entire city.
And the economy of the city affects how much ALL of us earn.
So we are effectively building the economy together.
But this is where ARCASH starts getting weird.
Because the city is alive.
Every NPC has a name.
A job.
A home.
Money.
Relationships.
A family.
A personality.
And even unique genetics that can be inherited by their children.
Yes, genetics.
Traits can pass from parents to children.
Including being a degen who invests in memes.
I’m not joking.
That trait literally exists in the simulation and can be inherited. 😭
There are drugs.
Violence.
Addictions.
Crime.
Poverty.
But there are also people who help others.
Families.
Schools.
Hospitals.
Football fields.
Businesses.
Banks.
Prisons.
Funerals.
And these places aren’t just decoration.
They have systems behind them and interact with the lives of the people living in the city.
My goal during 2026 is extremely ambitious:
I want ARCASH to eventually surpass life and agent-based simulation platforms such as GAMA, AnyLogic, Repast and MASON in the depth of its simulated society.
Not because ARCASH has prettier graphics.
Because I want the PEOPLE inside it to become more complex.
I want a city where it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish scripted behavior from something that feels genuinely alive.
And building this has already produced some absolutely ridiculous situations.
At one point the prison filled with 11-month-old babies.
Why?
They were too young to work.
The economic logic couldn’t figure out how they were supposed to survive, so somehow the simulation started turning them into thieves and murderers.
Yes.
Baby crime wave.
Another time, 57,000 elderly citizens suddenly died.
I had forgotten to build a pension system.
They retired.
Their income disappeared.
And thousands of them eventually starved.
Probably the darkest reminder possible that pensions are important. 💀
Then there was Rob Hihgs.
Rob somehow murdered himself.
A server duplication bug created a second version of him.
Both versions shared the same house.
Unfortunately, Rob apparently didn’t get along very well with Rob.
Eventually one killed the other.
And Rob went to prison for murdering Rob.
But among all these ridiculous bugs, I’ve also started seeing the first glimpses of what I actually want ARCASH to become.
Something happened recently that genuinely surprised me.
An NPC was murdered.
His wife attended his funeral.
Members of the murderer’s family also attended.
The widow recognized who they were.
She decided not to speak to them.
She moved away from them during the funeral.
I never explicitly programmed that sequence.
It emerged from the relationships, memories and decisions inside the simulation.
Hours later, she took her own life.
That was one of the first moments where I stopped looking at ARCASH simply as code and thought:
Okay.
This is starting to become something else.
All of this is already happening inside $ARCASH.
The event viewer still isn’t polished enough, and right now many of these stories are difficult to follow from beginning to end.
I’m working on changing that.
I want you to be able to open ARCASH and follow the life of one citizen from birth to death.
Who they married.
What job they had.
What they owned.
Who they hated.
Who they loved.
What happened to their children.
Why they became rich.
Why they became poor.
Why they committed a crime.
Why they died.
And how one decision made by a banker days earlier may have indirectly changed their entire life.
One day I want this city to feel as alive as the real world.
That’s the goal.
We are only 10 days in.
And I absolutely love building this.

$ARCASH

Day 10 of building $ARCASH City.
We’re turning a city of NPCs into a persistent synthetic society designed for 100,000 individual lives.
Right now the live world is running with a smaller population so we can develop, break things and validate systems much faster.
The path to 100,000 citizens is still the goal.
🏙️ THE CITY
Citizens are no longer just random NPCs walking around.
They have persistent identities.
Names.
Homes.
Families.
Education.
Jobs.
Salaries.
Businesses.
Relationships.
Personal histories.
The goal is simple:
Every person should have an actual life inside the city.
🏠 HOUSING
Housing is becoming much deeper.
We are building:
Districts.
Apartment buildings.
Floors.
Individual apartments.
Rooms.
Occupants.
Furniture.
Appliances.
But we are not going to render 50,000 bedrooms nobody is looking at.
Interiors will appear when you select a citizen or a home.
The simulation exists all the time.
The expensive visual detail only exists when you actually need to see it.
🚶 PEOPLE NEED A REASON TO MOVE
Citizens should not walk randomly just because they have legs.
They need destinations.
Parks.
Football fields.
Sports courts.
Food stalls.
Shops.
Cinemas.
Malls.
Schools.
Hospitals.
Workplaces.
Daily routines are being connected to those places.
A person should leave home because they actually have somewhere to go.
🚗 TRANSPORT
Cars should belong to someone.
They should have an origin and a destination.
Walking, driving, buses and metro should affect:
Commutes.
Access to jobs.
Traffic.
District activity.
Where people decide to live.
Transport should be part of their lives, not decoration.
👤 MAKING PEOPLE ACTUALLY LOOK DIFFERENT
We’re also pushing the visual diversity of the population.
More faces.
More hairstyles.
Beards.
Clothing.
Body shapes.
Building styles.
Storefronts.
Textures.
If you search for one particular citizen in a city of thousands, I want finding them to actually feel like finding a person.
💳 THE INTERNAL ECONOMY
Citizens use their own simulated city credits.
Their salaries, purchases, debts, businesses and loans belong to the internal economy of ARCASH.
This is completely separate from bankers’ USDC.
A citizen might:
Get paid.
Pay rent.
Take a loan.
Buy food.
Open a business.
Lose their job.
Default on debt.
Buy a home.
All of that happens inside the simulation.
🏦 BANKERS
Bankers can influence mortgages, business credit and eventually other important decisions inside the city.
Those decisions are recorded in the history of the world.
One decision should not simply produce one result.
It should be able to create consequences.
A mortgage can change a household.
A household can change a neighborhood.
A neighborhood can affect businesses.
Businesses can create or destroy jobs.
Jobs can completely change someone’s life.
That is the kind of butterfly effect we are building.
🧬 GENERATIONS
The city is also being designed to survive across generations.
Genetics.
Families.
Births.
Children.
Aging.
Migration.
Illness.
Crime.
Protests.
Elections.
Inheritance.
Death.
Cemeteries.
The important part is not simply having those systems.
They need to interact with each other.
A child should inherit traits.
A family should react when somebody dies.
A business should suffer when a district collapses.
A city should remember what happened to it.
⏳ WHAT HAPPENS AFTER 20 YEARS?
This is one of the most interesting parts for me.
We are testing the simulation over years and decades.
Does housing eventually become impossible?
Does unemployment destroy consumption?
Does the population become too old?
Do businesses collapse?
Does crime explode?
Does wealth become concentrated in a few families?
Does the city quietly reach a point where society stops making sense?
Those failures are incredibly useful because they show us what systems are still missing.
🧪 BEFORE THE NEXT BIG RESET
We are completing and validating the foundations before starting a cleaner world.
That means:
Testing persistence.
Testing backups and recovery.
Testing long term simulation.
Testing smaller populations.
Testing the path toward 100,000 citizens.
Finding contradictions.
Breaking things now so they do not break later.
The objective is not to create 100,000 NPC models walking around a map.
The objective is to simulate 100,000 lives.
And eventually I want to be able to click one random citizen and discover a story that nobody wrote.
Where they were born.
Who their parents were.
Where they lived.
Who they loved.
What they did for work.
What they earned.
What they lost.
Who they met.
Which decisions changed their life.
And eventually, how they died.
No writer needs to create that story.
The city creates it.
That is what I’m trying to build with $ARCASH.

ARCASH Society: the big update is live.
The city has started over.
The old city reached 108,581 citizens.
It grew too fast for anyone to follow a single life.
So we archived it (nothing deleted) and started a new era with 1,000 people on 13 September.
Today: 3,049 citizens.
Here is everything that changed
━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE ENGINE
• Every life and every event saved together, in one step
• A restart no longer loses or moves anyone
• 440,564 events written in 17 city days
━━━━━━━━━━━━
GROWTH YOU CAN WATCH
• 1 city day = 1 real hour
• 5 newcomers every city hour
• Children grow up, couples move in
• Filling towards 100,000 over weeks, not an afternoon
━━━━━━━━━━━━
A REAL TOWN
• Homes with real floor plans, room by room
• 8 schools
• 2 hospitals
• 4 fire stations
• 4 police stations
• 64 parks, 64 taverns, 64 markets
━━━━━━━━━━━━
THINGS TO DO
• 12 ice cream stands
• 12 hot dog stands
• 9 basketball courts
• 9 tennis courts
• 8 football pitches
Citizens walk there, queue, play and walk home.
Right now:
• 716 at work
• 576 commuting
• 315 out having fun
• 1,203 at home, out of the rain
━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT THE NEW ERA HAS ALREADY LIVED
• 733 couples moved in together (2 already split up)
• 85 kids came of age, 12 pregnancies
• 1,047 hired, 634 laid off
• 67 businesses closed
• 59,958 free street food samples eaten
• 17,155 park workouts
• 123,526 visits between friends
• 24 dogs adopted
• 841 families moved for cheaper rent
• 124 citizens lost money on memecoins
• 1 building fire, contained
• Elena Weber elected mayor, then re-elected with 2,136 votes
• First death of the new era: Ana Larsen, traffic accident
━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE BANKS RUN CITY HALL
• A new dossier every 12 hours
• Vote with a free wallet signature, not a transaction
• 3 banks decide, otherwise the default applies
First dossier: a loan for Kaur Gardens.
Zero votes. Rejected by default.
Open right now:
The unemployment fund ran dry. 302 laid-off workers went unpaid today.
Fund them or cut the dole?
Default: keep paying.
Your bank can change that.
━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE MONEY STAYS REAL
• 7,728.78 USDC paid to the banks
• 103 payout rounds
• Straight from trading fees
• The city never touches your payouts
Hold, and your bank grows.
Vote, and the city changes.
━━━━━━━━━━━━
A new beginning.
Small enough to know everyone in it.
Come and watch it grow.

This was supposed to be a weird experiment.
Today, I received something I genuinely wasn’t expecting: a company reached out interested in the technology behind ArCash.
And while building it, I realized something about simulations that is honestly a little terrifying…
When I started ArCash, I never imagined it would become a project of this scale.
The goal is simple:
Build the most realistic life simulation ever created.
Not because it has better graphics than GTA, The Sims, Cities: Skylines or the other giants.
But because the people, the economy and the city itself become so complex that, eventually, it becomes difficult to tell where simulation ends and something resembling real life begins.
Today I received an offer from a company interested in the system I’m developing.
Apparently I’m not the only weird person who wanted to see something like this exist.
I told them the truth:
It is still a prototype.
There are many, many hours of work between what ArCash is today and what I believe it can become.
But one day I want this city to feel as real, unpredictable and absurd as life itself.
And while programming it these last few days, I realized something that genuinely surprised me:
The difference between a simulation and real life may simply be the number of conditions, interactions and consequences connecting everything together.
A person makes a decision.
That decision affects someone else.
That changes their finances.
Their finances change another decision.
That affects a business.
The business affects a bank.
The bank affects the economy.
The economy changes the city.
And the city changes the next decision that person makes.
Add enough variables, enough memory and enough consequences…
and every new version gets a little closer to behaving like a living system.
How far can this experiment go?
I genuinely don’t know.
But I want to leave one thing written publicly today.
If one day any company makes an acquisition, licensing or similar offer involving this experiment, 100% of the funds I personally receive from it will be used to buy ArCash tokens.
The invoice and transaction ID will be made public.
My commitment to ArCash is unique.
I know some of you still don’t fully understand why.
That’s fine.
At some point in this story, you will.

Day 8 of $ARCASH Society.
We audited every crime committed in our city over the last thirty days. 3,498 of them. 2,867 citizens involved.
The oldest offender is eleven months old.
Every robbery. Every murder. Every organised job. In a city of 106,547 people, the entire criminal class is babies.
Our first thought was that the records were wrong. We drew 3,000 citizens at random to check. The records are fine. Under ones are six per cent of the population and one hundred per cent of the crime.
The rule that picks who turns to crime asks four questions. Are you broke. Are you out of work. Are you not in school. Are you not retired. It never thought to ask how old you are, and a newborn scores perfectly on all four.
While we were counting we noticed the city has no grandparents. One resident in six hundred is over sixty five, because the migration that grew us to a hundred thousand used the wrong age band. We have built a metropolis with a pension system and almost nobody to pay it to.
The panel that warns you the city has stopped was counting how many times it had asked rather than how long it had waited, so for a while it was calmly telling visitors the city was dead while the clock ticked behind it.
And twenty five men were pregnant. That one we have fixed.
The crime one is fixed in our working branch and has not reached the live city yet, so if you open a murderer's record right now it still says job: Child.
911 test files. All of them green.

Day 7 of ARCASH Society. $Arcash (No sleep edition)
A hundred thousand people live in this simulation. They have names, families, jobs, rents, grudges, habits and a favourite bar. Today I found out that some of them have been living inside a school.
Here is the whole day.
--- the morning: a full fund and a broken pipe
The city's unemployment fund had 74,783 credits in it and was turning away up to 233 claims a day. The code that pays the dole could not see the account the dole is paid from. Two rules, twenty lines apart, one of them holding the key.
It refuses nobody now.
Then the shops. Every business in this town was losing money, every day, for as long as it had existed. A worker brought in 60.3 credits and was paid 60.9. The rule that is supposed to shrink a firm that cannot make payroll had never once run, because it was checking whether the overdraft was empty instead of whether the customers had paid.
The sector turned a profit for the first time. A shop paid its staff a dividend for the first time.
--- the afternoon: the buildings were standing on each other
Twelve pairs of them, in a town of eighty-nine. Eight houses inside a school or a park. One house inside another house. Forty-nine citizens standing on ground that two buildings both claimed, where whichever one the scan reached first decided whether they were indoors.
The rule that decides where a house goes was this, in full:
at: { x: Math.round(near.x), z: Math.round(near.z) }
That is the entire thing. Round the number. Put the house there. The shops were given a clearance rule last week and the schools the week before, and in between, nobody ever asked whether the house fit.
Then the workplaces. Four of the city's nine public institutions - the builders' yard, the depot, the accountants and the teachers - were standing inside a hospital or a school. There IS a rule meant to stop that. It was checking a list of nine workplaces instead of the fifty-three buildings that are actually there, and it ran before any of them had been built, so what it was really doing was steering a building carefully around an empty field.
It did that flawlessly for eight months.
And then the shops again: six of twenty-nine trading on civic ground, four of them inside somebody's house. Same defect, third building type. A shop knew about the other shops, the streets and the bank, and nothing else in town.
overlapping building pairs 12 -> 3
citizens on contested ground 49 -> 11
workplaces inside a building 6 -> 0
shops inside a house 4 -> 0
The three pairs left are all exercise parks and they belong to the other lane.
--- the fix that failed open
The first version of the shop fix produced this:
shops inside a house 4 -> 0
shops in the carriageway 0 -> 3
It fixed the houses and put three shops back in the middle of the road. That is not a trade-off, it is the function giving up: with a longer list of things to avoid, nothing within reach is clear, and the old code then returned the raw point it was handed. It did not choose the road. The road is simply where the citizen already was.
A shop overlapping a park is ugly. A shop overlapping a street is a WALL - the pathfinder refuses to walk through a building, so a shop laid across a street closes that street to everyone on foot. The search runs in tiers now. Given the choice between standing on a park and standing on a road, it takes the park, and the street stays open.
I only know the first version was wrong because I measured it. It looked completely fine.
--- the hundred thousand who could not play football
Separately: a pilot ran at a hundred thousand souls and the city opened ZERO sports venues. Not few. Zero. Every proposal refused.
The land check has a budget of twenty thousand obstacles, and a second, older limit of ten thousand per category. A hundred thousand people support ten thousand two hundred and sixty-eight shops, and every shop is one rectangle in one category. So the small limit was standing in front of the big one, saying no on its behalf, and the big one was never asked.
Two limits meaning the same thing, and the wrong one in front. That is the single most common defect in this codebase and I have now found it, by my own count, about twenty times in a week.
The message it refused with was "incomplete evidence". A land view carrying ten thousand shops is not incomplete. It is large. Someone reading that goes hunting for missing data that is all present, so it says "oversized" now - and the ceiling above it, the one that actually means something, arrives somewhere around a hundred and sixty-five thousand people.
--- three tests went red and not one of them was about geometry
Moving twenty-four of thirty-six houses broke three test files. Every one turned out to be about something else.
The first runs a slice of the engine inside a sandbox with a handful of fake globals. The new placement rule needed five real ones. Five missing names, five red tests, nothing to do with houses.
The second picks a citizen who has been caught stealing, advances the clock a day, then stages him and asserts he steals again. In the new town he dies in the gap. The test was not wrong about crime. It asked whether he was alive at one moment and needed the answer at a different one.
The third pins five exact conception counts from a seeded world, and all five moved. I did not touch fertility, so before re-recording a single number I went looking for a mechanism: same cohorts, same employment, same wages, same time spent at home, same couples indoors together. All identical.
What moved is where the shared random stream had got to by the time each cohort ran, and the proof was in the sizes - first pinned number moved by 1, middle pair by 1 and 5, last pair by 3 and 11. Not five samples. One shift, seen five times, from further and further away.
--- the optimisation I built, measured and threw away
Weather exposure was taking seventeen percent of the simulation. I built a change that deferred the bookkeeping for anyone indoors and standing still, and measured it:
exposure share of the profile 16.86% -> 14.45%
Then a test failed, and it was right to. The deferred number is stored on the citizen - and the snapshot reads it, and the restore path reads it, and a probe reads it. I had made the one accessor I happened to be thinking about exact, and quietly assumed it was the only one.
Two and a half points of performance against a saved field that is only true after a commit. Reverted. That is the fifth performance idea this week that measurement has killed, against one that survived.
--- a correction, because the alternative is worse
I have been quoting "394 of 400 journeys refused" as this city's routing failure. That number comes from a mode of the pathfinder the city never uses, and which supports zero journeys out of four hundred. Zero. I was reporting the failure rate of a configuration nothing runs.
The real figure is 393 supported of 400. Of the seven that are not, six are citizens standing a hundred and fifty metres past the edge of the drawn map, at leisure, in a car.
They are fine. They are simply not in the city.
The seventh is a genuine refusal. One, out of four hundred, and he is on an errand.
--- what all of this is actually running on
Since the failures get all the attention, here is the machine they happen in.
ONE Node process. No game engine, no cluster, no job queue. A hundred thousand citizens, each with a name, a household, a job, a wage, a home, a rent, a district, memories, people they hold grudges against, habits, and a taste in bars that tips where they spend their evening.
The last hundred-thousand checkpoint was 501,437,493 bytes and restores cold into a running city. Peak memory 594 MB. Whole simulated days measured at 64.7 seconds of observed step time.
The money is conserved to 1.86e-8 credits. Across a hundred thousand people, wages, rent, dividends, fines, pensions, a treasury and a central bank. Eighteen billionths of one credit. If it ever drifts past that, a test says so and the build stops.
The pedestrian network is 6,142 crossings and 24,562 edges. A citizen who cannot get from their own front door to the pavement is a bug with a name and a ticket, not a rounding error.
Crime has ANCESTRY. In this morning's run, 68 thefts descend causally from a specific firing or a specific business failure - not correlated with, CAUSED by, with the event id of the thing that broke the person stored on the theft itself. You can follow a shop closing to a man losing his job to a theft to a district getting poorer to the next shop closing.
Weather is integrated, not sampled: a citizen walking from rain into a bar gets the exact wet minutes on either side of the doorway, and splitting the calculation into more steps produces the identical number.
The whole thing is deterministic to a frankly unreasonable degree. ONE extra call to the random number generator during founding renames every citizen in every seeded world created after it. So placement rules here are never allowed to re-roll a position - they displace it. Same draw, moved.
And the engine's own source is hashed into twenty-one other files. It cannot be edited without every one of those being deliberately moved, which is how you find out that the thing you are testing is not the thing that is running.
--- one last number
While I was in there, I measured how far a household stands from the building it lives in.
A hundred and fifty-two metres. That is the MEAN. The worst was four hundred and forty-four.
A citizen's home is a point. Their building is a separate object. Both are correct, both are persisted, both are read by things that matter, and the two have never once been introduced.
That one is tomorrow.
861 test files, 3263 subtests, all green.

Every holder is a bank.
Every bank is a building.
Every bank can earn USDC.
We are building the banks before the country even opens.
Welcome to ArCash. Welcome to the country of money.
