The largest set-piece battle in Reimagined (so far) is B7M3 - Save The Emperor. Well it like many other missions is getting a makeover. I hope to post a video soon! This mission was such a mess in the editor, it really needed this makeover 😅

A while ago I mentioned that Bruce Boxleitner and I were helping Warners with the launch of their Babylon 5 YouTube channel. As part of that, the first of three brand new half-hour-plus interviews/discussions between me and Bruce will go online on Monday.

Die, rebel scum!
Star Wars: Tie Fighter (LucasArts, 1994) was the sequel to Star Wars: X-Wing and better in every aspect! X-Wing was great, yes, but TIE Fighter seriously switched gears.
It was the first Star Wars game to let you play as the Empire, as a force of order against those pesky rebels! Woohoo!
Joining the Dark Side was simply badass (and honestly more fun). Getting that tattoo lasered on to your arm, epic. Hearing the original laser and blaster sounds, absolute nerd chills.
Computer Gaming World, GameSpot, and IGN all inducted it into the Hall of Fame. TIE Fighter was a masterclass from LucasArts and a serious rival to the Wing Commander franchise from Origin.
New video! This time taking a look at the new remake of B3M3: Hold Position, a bastard of a mission in the OG, but its Reimagined version isn't all that different and felt it needed a proper remake.

Microsoft: We want more DOOM, Quake and Wolfenstein games more regularly.
Also Microsoft: Lay off 50% of id Software including core teams of people responsible for some of the quality games we got over the years.
Sounds like a winning strategy to me...

I’m so sorry for everyone at id Software affected by these layoffs.
I know what it feels like to leave id while id goes on. It’s a strange and painful thing to step away from a place that holds so much of your work, friendships and history.
The people at id have done a great job moving that legacy forward. DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein are not easy names to carry on, especially in today’s industry. The last few games showed real care, skill and respect for what those worlds mean to people.
A note on digital preservation: id's history is critically important to the history of games. I’ve preserved id’s complete early history from our start at Softdisk through to August 6, 1996, including materials and assets that, as far as I know, id itself no longer has. I hope someone is doing the same for the company’s ongoing legacy (the work, code, assets, stories and the people behind them).
I’m thinking of everyone at id today, and everyone else affected by yesterday’s layoffs. Romero Games was there a year ago. I know how devastating it is, and my heart's with all of you.
An interview with original X-Wing/TIE Fighter developer Edward Kilham. Worth the listen for insights to his career and the development of the series!

While MicroProse ruled the simulation genre, one of the best air combat sims of the 90s came from an unexpected place: Lucasfilm Games, a studio famous for its adventure games.
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (1991) brought a close to their excellent World War II trilogy, which began with Battlehawks 1942 and continued with Their Finest Hour.
The game came with a huge, incredibly detailed manual packed with historical background on the Western European air war from 1943 to 1945, technical specifications for every aircraft, and real air combat tactics. It wasn’t made for casual players but a true feast for fans who loved deep, historically accurate flight simulations.
Lucasfilm later became LucasArts and shifted successfully into space combat with X-Wing and Tie Fighter, but sadly they never made another historical simulation. Given how well Their Finest Hour and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe were received, it feels like a real missed opportunity.
