6/ We don't listen enough; we tell people what's good for them. And when progressives like Bernie aggressively go after the elites that hold people down, they are shunned as dangerous populists. Why? Maybe because true economic populism is bad for our high-income base. 😬

I'm struck by the criticism that progressivism is to blame for Harris' loss.. As someone who covered the Harris campaign day in and day out for months, she was not running as a progressive, not on immigration, not on climate, etc. She ran as a centrist, consensus driven Democrat, actively inviting Republicans into the coalition. It stuck out to me when she started adding "let's be intentional about building community" because that is the clear language of the left but to associate the campaign with some of this other stuff wasn't what I observed.

Hopefully the corridors making use of this bridge are being considered for other upgrades. The cost of extending the Ethan Allen to Montreal and installing signaling to enable 79mph top speeds would be around $600M.
Chuck Schumer has announced a 215mil Crisi grant (Biggest ever) for the Livingston Ave bridge replacement in Albany. The newer bridge will have a higher top speed, wider and feature a walking path connecting Albany and Rensselaer. This will massively benefit Amtrak Empire trains.

Just a reminder that in May Governor DeSantis signed a bill removing consideration of climate change from all state laws. As he explained, ‘I’m not a global warming person.’ search.app/KwHpy7ndZg7293QG6

39. The US Inflation Reduction Act includes a licence to print money for solar manufacturers and hydrogen firms. It’s good for clean energy, but it's also like hitting the accelerator on a car with the handbrake on. The handbrake is trade barriers, grid and permitting issues.

Climate change is the kitchen table issue of our lifetimes, threatening the American dream, driving up inflation, food prices, housing costs, healthcare, immigration, utility bills. That it's still treated like a niche side issue is insane. heated.world/p/everyones-hea…

I spent 6 months as a security guard, protecting what the industry has nebulously deemed the "Thin Purple Line." It's a strange, quickly proliferating job at the nexus of law enforcement + capitalism. My dispatch is the new @Harpers cover story: harpers.org/archive/2024/09/…

This is a very astute thread from @JesseJenkins. What scares Big Oil the most is their sense that four more years of progress on clean energy will break their political power, and see the rise of a whole different set of forces
For my entire life, I've heard politicians talk about bringing manufacturing jobs back to America. It is FINALLY happening. "We're not going back!" has been @KamalaHarris's rallying cry. But those jobs & industries of the future now hang in the balance this #election. 🧵

Joe Biden has served our country with honor and dignity. As the first president to ever walk on a picket line with striking workers, he has been the most pro-working class president in modern American history. Thank you, Mr. President, for all you’ve done.

It’s a shame that this runs counter to populist wisdom in places like Burlington that reserve most of the land near our universities for low density residential uses.
