Funny personal story I have about the late GOAT Mike Ditka...
When I was a toddler, my parents and I were on a flight and #MikeDitka happened to be on the flight a few years after the 1985 superbowl win.
My mom passed him in the aisle and I waved to him, and he said to my mom, "She's a beautiful little girl!" My mom said, "Oh just wait..."
In front of DA Coach she says, "Faran, who is the President of the United States?" ... I go, "Mike Ditka!"
20 years later when I danced for his team "The Chicago Rush," I met him at his Ditka's Steakhouse in downtown Chicago.
Upon meeting him, I go, "I actually met you when I was about 3 years old on a plane with my parents." He goes, "Wait, you're not the little girl who said I was the President of the United States, are you?" I told him, "Indeed I am."
He gave me the biggest hug and said, "I don't think you realize, I told everyone in my family that happened... I have been telling that story for decades! What a full circle moment that now you dance for the team!"
Rest in power Coach! You are and always will be a legend.

Tony Kornheiser & @RealMikeWilbon are consistently great on @PTI, but their best work is when they eulogize a legendary sports figure and put that person's life in perspective... just as they did when they wrote award-winning columns in their newspaper days.

"Mike Ditka loved Frank Sinatra and he would quote the song My Way all the time..
He embodied that song and he lived exactly as he wanted to..
I genuinely loved him and he was as iconic and as connected to a city as any sports figure has ever been" ~ @Espngreeny #PMSLive
"Mike Ditka appeared on Mike & Mike every Monday for at least 15 years & we got to know him extraordinarily well..
He was as Mike Ditka in private as he was in person..
He had the biggest heart of anyone you could possibly come across" ~ @Espngreeny #PMSLive

One of my favorite Mike Ditka talk show appearances was when he did the David Letterman show. I'm betting it was one of his favorites, too.

Mike Ditka’s passing just before Bears-Packers on Sunday brings back memories of the week Walter Payton died in 1999.
Chicago’s next game was at Lambeau. Bears DL Bryan Robinson blocked a chip-shot field goal that would’ve won the game.
"I think Walter Payton picked me up, because I can't jump that high,” Robinson said after the game.

In the early nineties I wrote an unauthorized biography of Mike Ditka. Safe to say he was none too pleased and let me know. We never spoke until eight years later when he came to work for The NFL Today. “We’re teammates now,” he said. Words I’ll never forget. Much like the man.

When I got to Chicago in the summer of 1985, Mike Ditka and the Chicago Bears were king. Coach Ditka set the tone for a team that was punishing, dominant, and fun — and the city loved him for it. I'm thinking of the Ditka family and Bears fans everywhere on the passing of a legend.
