So last year I got to participate in one of the coolest Writing concepts, FicSci, where a bunch of creative writers go to Stellenbosch and listen to a series of lectures by a visiting scientist. Our scientist was an award winning geologist. – at Krugersdorp, South Africa

All that was required of us was to listen, eat well and produce a work of fiction informed by what we are learning. The scientist is told to deliver the lecture like he would to his community. Fast forward to one year later and our collection is available for free download! – at Krugersdorp, South Africa

No. You are not the only one. It is not organic. And our @GovernmentZA through a minister is talking about "We will not tolerate..." and not realizing that our very nationhood is at stake. We are in the middle of an unprecedented information war. It requires gravitas and modern tools of communication and engagement. Who stands to benefit from this is the first question. What opportunities does a weakened and fragmented nation offer to South Africa's adversaries is the second question.
Am I the only person noticing that there is a coordinated campaign to expand hateful and prejudicial attitudes to South Africa's Muslim community?

📺Thinking about The Polygamist through the lens of my recent research. If Blood & Water shows how streaming platforms reward globally legible aesthetics, The Polygamist suggests that cultural specificity can travel too. Perhaps one of the defining features of contemporary television is that stories can travel and that audiences are increasingly willing to travel with them.🤔
📺Had the pleasure of presenting at the 76th International Communication Association (ICA) My presentation, From Yizo Yizo to Blood & Water: Youth, Identity and the Platformisation of South African Television, explored how South African youth representation has shifted from the grounded, multilingual realities of public service television to the aspirational, globally legible aesthetics of the streaming era. As someone whose research sits at the intersection of South African television history and popular culture it was especially meaningful to share this work with an international community of scholars and practitioners. The conversations continue.

Quick question to those who know me, would you come to the function if I did some dramatic readings from White Chalk and read some unreleased stories from my MA thesis?? Like would that be something you would come see for free??

Before I did @Idembeka I never thought of myself as a poet. That changed after @TA_4Short’s workshop (I still quote their 5 F’s for poetry). Many thanks to Idembeka and its wonderful instructors. And thank you always @thelavendercia and @soulfiru for your insightful feedback🫶🏾✨.

Because Disability Rights are Human Rights
Eyesight is crucial for everyday tasks. If diagnosed with glaucoma, take your medication as prescribed and see your eye doctor regularly. Encourage family members to get screened. Early detection and proper care can prevent blindness. #AsibeHealthyGP

🎶📺Jazz was deeply ingrained in the DNA of Black-forward mass communication in South Africa so much so that a majority of television title sequences were composed by jazz artists. In the late 1990s and early 2000s what I think of as the “nation-building renaissance”popular TV shows used jazz to evoke a shared sense of belonging. Isidingo, Backstage, Generations, nearly all the defining theme songs of that era were rooted in jazz.
