It's fascinating how Calvin & Hobbes is locked into its own lifespan. Watterson famously didn't want his comic strip marketed and merchandised like Garfield, so he ended it on his terms.
The side effect of that is it's really only known by those who were around for its original run and a brief period after when the collections were recommended by everyone.
There's an entire generation who didn't grow up with it, and that's a shame. One of the greatest newspaper comic strips of all time.

I'm going to expand again on this.
Mass Effect literally had the potential to make Star Wars/Star Trek levels of money.
What they created with ME1 and ME2 was an elevation of gaming to a level of art form not previously accomplished on the PC side of digital gaming.
ME3 was their conscious decision to tell their fanbase: "No, we don't want to do that."
Similarly Dragon Age: Origins was a shot across the bow for the Dungeons and Dragons franchise.
Luckily for them, BioWare decided to destroy that momentum immediately with its sequel, and things just got progressively (hah!) worse from there.
If there was such a thing as artistic malpractice, BioWare would have been convicted of it ages ago.
I want to expand on this, because for BioWare's original games:
I was the target demographic.
Baldur's Gate, NWN, KOTOR, ME, DAO were all games that managed to target in my soul what I wanted from a game.
And one by one they killed each of them. Not with a bang, but with the steady decay of the core mechanics and plots.
Well except for KOTOR. That one they just set on fire on the way out, and left modders to pick up the pieces.
Eventually they would release a game, and I'd look at it, think back on what was, and say...
"No. I don't think I will buy that."
Literally all they had to do is hit the rewind button and say "You know that thing that made money that gamers wanted? Let's make that!"
They refused.
