I am very pleased to share our new volume, '𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗮: 𝗪𝗮𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗱', forthcoming with Bloomsbury Academic @BloomsburyPol in January 2027. This is a project I conceived and co-edited with @JosephDaher19. We believe this book is the first scholarly work to treat Syria’s conflict and its unfolding political transition as a single field of analysis, and the first of its kind written largely by Syrians from diverse backgrounds. 1/9 What is this book about, and why is it so timely? A thread 🧵

What happened in #Daraya & Syria was not a 'civil war' Daraya was part of Assad's War of Annihilation against the Syrian people Bec they demanded reform of a hereditary tyranny Daraya included a massacre, 4 yr starvation siege, & ethnic cleansing NOT civil war Annihilation

You should talk to a Syrian......
Iran has not attacked another nation in the Middle East in over 200 years. Israel has attacked every nation in the Middle East uninterrupted for the past 80 years. Yet mainstream media has convinced you that it’s Iran 🇮🇷 Are you dumb?

Armando obviously failed to follow Russian involvement in Assad's war vs Syrians Russia lies with every breath A 'Russian ceasefire' is one that includes continued & escaleted targeting of civilians (evidenced in Ukraine also) A 'Russian humanitarian corridor' is a kill zone
Zelensky is being offered a true opportunity to end the War through Diplomacy. Russia has officially invited him to visit Moscow without any pre-condition, for a true dialogue. Russia also said will guarantee his safety through the all journey to and from Moscow. I'm also available to travel with Zelensky together to Moscow for dialogue. In this regard am openly offering to Zelensky to visit Moscow with a flight from Helsinki together. This extraordinary times require the courage to act in favour of Peace. My message to Zelensky is this: Don't be afraid, Peace await you in Moscow, let's travel together! We can end the killings and start a new chapter of Hope! @ZelenskyyUa #Peace #Ukraine #Diplomacy
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Russia's officials have repeatedly stated that Zelensky can meet Putin in Moscow with safety guarantees if he travels there, but only after negotiators agree terms and he accepts their conditions/venue; Ukraine rejects Moscow as a venue and no unconditional offer was made. kyivpost.com/post/88316 uk.lapresse.it/world-en/2026/…

Motasem is as principled on Yemen as he has been on Syria.
A Gaza-based Palestinian Journalist Standing Before the Rubble of His Home Condemns the Houthis and Iran Over Their Actions in Yemen Standing before the rubble of his destroyed home in Gaza, Palestinian journalist Motasem Ahmed Dalloul @AbujomaaGaza delivered a powerful condemnation of the Houthis and Iran, accusing them of exploiting the Palestinian cause to conceal their abuses against the Yemeni people, particularly the ongoing siege of Taiz. Dalloul, a Gaza-based journalist and Middle East affairs specialist who holds a master's degree in international journalism from the University of Westminster in London, said he had lost his wife, three children, several siblings and other relatives, his home, his supermarket, and his personal office during the Israeli war in Gaza. Despite those losses, Dalloul refused to remain silent about the suffering of Yemenis. He accused the Houthis of using their declared support for Gaza and Palestine to improve their image among Sunni Muslims while committing abuses against Yemenis. "The Houthis' support for Gaza does not give them a certificate of forgiveness to starve, displace, kill, destroy homes, occupy land, change people's culture, religion, and religious identity, or impose their sectarian guardianship on them," he said. Dalloul revealed that he had faced criticism and pressure, including from people in Gaza, demanding that he delete his earlier video condemning the Houthi siege of Taiz, change his position, retract his remarks, or apologize. He refused. "Just because I lost my wife, children, and home does not mean I am authorized to speak on behalf of the people of Gaza. I represent myself, and I speak according to my conscience." He also rejected accusations that criticizing the Houthis meant siding with their opponents. "My criticism of the Houthis for committing war crimes in Yemen, particularly now in Taiz, does not mean I support the other side. I stand against injustice wherever it occurs and whoever commits it. I will never stand with an oppressor." Dalloul accused Iran and the Houthis of using Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque as political and religious slogans to rehabilitate their image, while pursuing what he described as a sectarian project in Yemen. He ended with a message of solidarity from Gaza to Yemenis living under Houthi control. "To all our brothers in Yemen who are oppressed by this criminal Houthi and his followers, we will not abandon you. We stand with you, and we pray that God grants you victory over this tyrant." Dalloul insisted that neither personal attacks nor political pressure would change his position. "I stand with what is right, wherever it may be. This is my position, and I will not retreat from it."

This is a huge disappointment, and a betrayal of Syrian women.
Syria's new authorities have imposed admissions rules that bar women from most programs at two new state universities focused on defense and security. There is no justification for such blatant discrimination. trib.al/pwXazNe

It was Joanna! I finally got to meet the great @ScottLucas_EA in person and saw him at his rhetorical best. Also got to see that lying slug Maté being called out for his distortions in real time. Very satisfying! Such a pity Maté's fawning acolytes at @wereontheditch missed it!

After Jordan and Turkey, Qatar now speaks out against Israeli aggression in Syria at the UN General Assembly! This is a strong signal to the US administration: it needs to act, and most of its allies in the region will push it to take action.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani speaking at the UN General Assembly: "Israel continues its blatant attacks against Syria and is occupying more Syrian territories and adding them to the Golan Heights, which it has occupied since 1967, without even bothering to provide any justification other than its own assessment of the nature of the political system that emerged there in Syria after the removal of the previous regime."

Maté's disgusting 'career': Relentless support & lies for Assad Spoke at UNSC for Russia to deny Assad's proven chemical weapons massacres Targeted Syrian rescue workers Supports Putin's genocidal invasion of Ukraine Supports the brutal Iran regime. Absolute filth.

This is true in Ireland too - those who see themselves as 'leaders of the left' stand squarely with Palestine, and also with Putin in Ukraine, the brutal Iran regime & Assad before his overthrow.
The international outrage over Francesca Albanese’s call to stop arming Ukraine is oddly reassuring. In Italy, positions like hers have become totally normalized across huge parts of the left. Maybe we haven’t fallen into the abyss just yet.

We welcome today’s historic sentencing of former Assad regime Brigadier General Samir Othman Al-Sheikh, who was sentenced to 60 years in federal prison following his conviction on three counts of torture, conspiracy to commit torture, immigration document fraud, and attempted naturalization fraud. As Mouaz Moustafa, our Executive Director, stated, “SETF is committed to continuing our work with U.S. law enforcement and the Syrian government to ensure that every war criminal faces their day in court. We are committed to a peaceful and democratic Syria, and that cannot happen without justice and accountability for the remnants of Assad’s regime.”
