5 things I'd do differently if I were a psychology undergrad again: 1. I’d ask “were there any women studied?” when we cover the Stanford Prison Experiment 2. I’d ask “were there any women studied?” when we cover the Milgram Obedience Experiment 3. I’d ask “were there any women studied?” when we cover the Asch Conformity Experiment 4. When the prof answers no to all 3, I’d ask “why do we study men’s behavior and call it ‘human behavior’?” 5. I’d enroll in a feminist theory class

Very, very rarely does a celeb matter to me. This wonderful man did, using his voice to stand up and speak out for women and girls who were victims of male violence. A sad loss to this world 💔

Such a "bright lad" will realise that stalking and almost killing a girl in bright daylight = slap on the wrist. And what about the bright girl who almost died? All the other bright girls who are stalked and attacked? What conclusions will they draw? thetimes.com/uk/crime/articl…

Note to all Judges: Stabbing a girl 10 times is not ‘mischief’. It’s serious violence. (We should not have to point this out). Yet another case where a Judge is apparently more focused on the wellbeing of the violent male youth, than the brutalised girl. We agree with her mother. This derisory sentence is indeed disgraceful. Q. What sort of message does this send out to young girls- and for that matter, young boys too? A. That young girls matter less than young boys. Even stabbed young girls. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

We’re teenage girls fighting to ban the use of school uniform in porn. Why have you left it up to us? No one should have to feel nervous about walking to school in clothes designed for children. It’s time for law to end the sexualisation of minors theguardian.com/commentisfre…

While everything is blowing up about the proposed BBC licence fee changes, there's been a really interesting piece of research published this week about misperceptions about crime. The really fun bits are that people who read print newspapers, watch TV news and listen to the radio are most likely to get things wrong. Similarly people who use Facebook, TikTok and those who don't use social media are more likely to get things wrong. Those who use @X , Reddit and LinkedIn fare much better. I regularly 🫵🏼at this beast when it reaches out to swipe me as I walk past the back of the sofa. I often accompany it with a sharp "ah-ah" or "no". It doesn't work. I still do it. He still swipes me. It's not sign language, it's what worked on my children when they were toddlers. It doesn't work on cats.

They really do think it's all in our heads. Cambridge University study showing men with autoimmune conditions receive diagnoses in an average of 3 months while women wait 2 years. The study of over 6,600 participants found women 46% more likely to get psychiatric misdiagnoses and 74% more likely to be told symptoms are psychosomatic, after adjusting for key variables. Researchers link the delays to longstanding medical biases that view women's symptom reports as less credible or overly emotional, leading to quicker psychological explanations instead of thorough investigation.
On average men were diagnosed in 3 months. Women in 2 years. Women's auto-immune diseases aren't trickier. But doctors afford women less epistemological authority. Women are simply considered less trustworthy, even, especially, about themselves. theguardian.com/society/2026…

The author of this piece is right. Grown men do not need cosseting. In any discussion about sexual advances towards young girls it should be made completely apparent that it is wrong, will not be tolerated and no blame should be attached to the child. Girls going through puberty have enough on their plate without being called “deceptive” for growing up. It is high time for girls to be free of creepy men viewing them sexually.
A Scottish charity has told migrants not to be ‘deceived’ by the appearance of young girls. This is outrageous. Girls are not ‘deceiving’ anyone – they are growing up normally. Men who need to be told this should not be in the country, says James Dixon buff.ly/8w7bL0b

And all this time I just thought I had a playful 👻
The East German Stasi often targeted dissidents by breaking into their homes and subtly changing things - moving furniture, changing the brand of tea, rearranging photos - so the victim thought they were going crazy.

Ooh Auntie Beeb needs to save 100s of millions and get rid of countless quality journalists (as well as 100s of lesser quality) just so they can judge women on whether they paint their nails or not. Oh and berate those who don't because it's classist and racist.

The word rooster was adopted by American puritans in the 18th century because they didn’t want to use the word cock.

What’s the point of this, @yougov? The “unwillingness” of women to “date” (also, what’s with prudish euphemism?) *any* subset of men is not a matter for polling companies to present as an issue needing attention. Away with the emotional blackmail. No means no. The end.
66% of straight women are unwilling to date a bisexual man, our study finds ahead of #BiVisibility Day % unwilling to date a bi man Straight women 66% Bi men 15% Gay men 11% Bi women 10% % unwilling to date a bi woman Straight men 35% Lesbian women 20% Bi men 9% Bi women 3%

All great until you get a second cat and it's like having toddlers in the house all over again. "They laid in my spot on the sofa, tell them off" "But he played with my feather toys, I don't like him doing that" "He got more treats than me, it's not fair" And worst of all, when they both disappear and go silent at the same time and you know it means mischief 🤦🏼‍♀️
Cat owners have a 30 percent lower risk of dying from a heart attack. A study published in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Neurology analysed data from 4,435 adults followed over 20 years in the Second National Health and Nutrition Examination Study and found that people who had owned a cat at any point had significantly lower cardiovascular mortality. The study was led by Adnan Qureshi at the University of Minnesota. He found that cat owners had a 30 percent lower risk of death from myocardial infarction and a lower risk of death from all cardiovascular diseases combined, after adjusting for age, sex, race, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, BMI, and income. The effect held across every subgroup tested. The mechanism is likely stress reduction. Cats, unlike dogs, do not need to be walked, which removes the exercise explanation. What they do provide is companionship, tactile contact, and a calming presence that lowers the baseline stress level in the home. Studies on pet interaction have shown that stroking a cat lowers cortisol and blood pressure within minutes, and those small daily reductions compound over years. The study could not determine whether it was the cat that produced the benefit or whether people who choose to own cats have personality traits that independently protect against heart disease. But the size of the effect, 30 percent, and the length of follow-up, 20 years, made the finding hard to dismiss as coincidence. A cat does not exercise with you, does not cook for you, and does not remind you to take your medication. It sits on your chest and purrs, and the 20-year data says that is enough. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2251…
