I blame the toxic fans who were WHINING about "Sonic's stupid friends" being playable and not Sonic himself and for NEARLY 20 YEARS Sega listened to them it wasn't until arguably Sonic Lost world that people FINALLY Started to realize "maybe having other playable characters besides Sonic ISN'T a bad thing" but by that point it was too late Those same whiny fanboys FINALLY got what they wanted and they hated it

Still don't get it why the 2000s are named "the dark age" when in reality the 2010s was the true dark age for Sonic. If anything the 2000s should be named "the experimental era"

The flop that was Free Riders with Kinect (I know, we don't talk about it), The Boom reboot, that was retconned yet we STILL feel its effects, Classic Sonic completely hogging everything. Yeah, the 2010's brought an end to everything that wasn't Sonic.

Exactly, and be a reccuring character isn't neccesary good. Look Knuckles and Amy, they was present in barely all games but mainly as spectators. And Tails sidekick role was barely helpfull.
