I'm a student of Yglesian rage bait and this is one of the best.
Activist energy drifting away from climate change and toward Palestine is the best thing that ever happened to American climate policy, allowing champions on the Hill to cut deals and align stakeholders. slowboring.com/p/why-anti-is…

Charts! Inflation picked back up in September, on both a headline and a core basis. Prices are up 3.7 percent over the past year. Core prices have risen at an annual rate of 3.4 percent over the past three months.
U.S. consumer prices rose 0.6 percent in September and were up 3.7 percent from a year earlier. “Core” prices, excluding the volatile food and energy categories, were up 0.3 percent m/m and 2.6 percent y/y. Data: bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0… Full coverage: nytimes.com/live/2026/10/14/…

One of the dominant narratives about the labor market over the past couple years has been that it's a "good time to have a job but a bad time to be looking for one." I think that's only half true. A quick 📈🧵:
U.S. employers added 29,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2 percent. Data: bls.gov/news.release/empsit.… Full coverage: nytimes.com/live/2026/10/02/…

Bottom line: +29k jobs (+50k 3mma) and 4.2% unemployment are hardly catastrophic. Rebound in prime-age e-pop is encouraging. Fundamental issue in this labor market isn't that there aren't enough jobs. It's what they pay: Wage growth is continuing to slow.

A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. Watch the whole thing:

Klobuchar has Schmitt dead to rights: "The game in fact was in Maryland. And I would just say for a US senator to have false information and imply, based on a confusion about the name of a team, that you were in another city and somehow involved that day in what was happening in Georgia and then call you a 'dirtbag' is something that deserves an apology."

When I interviewed Hasan Piker at the end of June, I asked him about the possibility that he could become a liability for Abdul El-Sayed in the general election. Here's what he had to say:

Trump and the GOP often cite how more people are working in the US than ever before. This is true -- because of population growth. As @ddale8 notes: "Every US president since at least 1948 ... could have accurately said at some point during their tenure that more people were working in the US than ever before." cnn.com/2026/08/24/politics/…

Rare unironic life advice. It can be great for many people but if you're on the fence about whether to go to some sort of graduate school, i.e. you don't have something fairly specific you're trying to accomplish, probably don't. A much worse value proposition than 20 years ago.

NEW: The U.S. military has lost at least 45 MQ-9 Reaper drones during the war with Iran, or roughly 25 percent of its fleet, according to three U.S. officials familiar with the matter. The toxic element of Bernie factionalism isn't having the policy debates whether it's about single-payer health care or Israel or whatever else, it's the fact that he keeps portraying mainstream Democrats as *corrupt* in dishonest ways.

The most amazing of the DNC autopsy stories — this is a water-is-wet finding guarded like the Ark of the Covenant.
New: The author of the DNC's 2024 election "autopsy" confirmed an Axios report that he concluded the war in Gaza hurt Kamala Harris politically — and that he'd privately shared that assessment with a pro-Palestinian group. He said he drafted that finding late last year but never submitted it to party leadership. axios.com/2026/08/06/dnc-202…
