Highlights from this week’s visit to St John’s with my Nordic colleagues included a great exchange with Premier @TonyWakehamNL & other member of @GovNL, a gathering with business reps & Board of Trade, student interaction at @MemorialU and a final stop at the iconic Signal Hill.
On a Nordic outreach trip to Newfoundland, paid a visit to the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site at L’Anse aux Meadows - the only authenticated Viking site in North America where a Norse expedition under the leadership of Leif Eriksson set up an encampment 1000 years ago.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard and Minister for Defence Pål Jonson are now in Ankara for the NATO Summit.
Earlier this year, Sweden hosted the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Helsingborg, just two years after joining the Alliance.
This was an opportunity for Sweden to show that through its NATO membership it has found its rightful home – and an opportunity for NATO to visit Sweden at home.
The meeting in Helsingborg also set the tone for the NATO Summit in Ankara on 7–8 July.
The agenda for the Summit includes the Allied countries’ commitments for a stronger NATO, a stronger defence industry and continued support to Ukraine.
Sweden is taking its responsibility. We are making the necessary investments to build a stronger Europe and a stronger NATO together with other Allies.

Our defense cooperation, including Canada’s procurement of GlobalEye, strengthens our joint security, while benefiting industries and creating jobs in both Sweden and Canada. I look forward to further deepening that cooperation
Trade between Canada and Sweden has more than doubled in the past five years. This year we entered into negotiations to procure GlobalEye, Saab’s Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft platform — and build it right here in Canada.
This morning, Prime Minister Kristersson and I spoke about the opportunities ahead, and how we can build on that progress.
