#OnThisDay in 1968, Shirley Chisholm became the first Black woman elected to Congress. Her motto, “Unbought and Unbossed,” illustrated her outspoken advocacy for both women and minorities during her seven terms in the House of Representatives.

As the Museum and National Historic Landmark that bears her name, we do not acknowledge the pardon, because that would condone the trial which Anthony said was a great miscarriage of justice. Today is a great day to vote in honor of Anthony and voting rights activists like her.

Honor those who put their lives on the line so you can vote. VOTE!

On this date 150 years ago, Susan B Anthony and others Rochester women gathered at her house on Madison Street and walked to the polling place on West Main to VOTE!! Across the country, women di the same, asserting the 14th Amendment made (even) women citizens.

VOTE early today, and you can say you voted the day she voted!

VOTE! Vote to honor others, like you, who have been denied this right. Those who understand that the vote is powerful have put their lives, reputations, and freedom on the line to clear a path for you to the ballot box. VOTE!!

This article is good at lifting up racism in the suffrage movement and celebrating Mary Church Terrell. It gets a couple things wrong. 1. Susan B Anthony wasn't at Seneca Falls in 1848; she was an abolitionist, not yet a suffragist. 2. Anthony and Terrell collaborated.

Ask Black suffragists and activists about Susan B. Anthony and race: Ida B. Wells Barnett, Mary Church Terrell, Hester Jeffrey, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Francis Ellen Watkins Harper, Fannie Barrier Williams,, Anna Murray Douglass, Angela Davis.

We listen to Black women's opinions on Anthony. This helps us understand Susan B. and how she was perceived, this helps us understand racism in the voting rights movement, and this provides insight into how we might become more effectively anti-racist.
