Agricultural boom in Nigeria happened in three main phases:
1. 1900 to 1914: First boom. British built railway from Lagos to Kano. Palm oil and kernel from East, cocoa from West and groundnut from North boomed. Nigeria became largest exporter of palm oil in the world.
2. 1950s to mid 1960s: Biggest boom. This is what people call the real boom. After Second World War, world price of cocoa, groundnut and palm oil rose. Nigeria was number 1 in palm oil, number 1 in groundnut, number 2 in cocoa.
Western Region with cocoa money built University of Ife, Liberty Stadium and Cocoa House. Northern Region with groundnut money built Ahmadu Bello University. Eastern Region with palm oil built University of Nigeria Nsukka.
This period 1954 to 1965 is the golden age of agriculture. Marketing Boards kept a lot of money.
3. Short revival 1976 to 1980: Under Obasanjo and Shagari, government launched Operation Feed the Nation and Green Revolution, but it failed because oil money had come and people left farm.
So when people say agricultural boom, they mean 1950s to 1965, before oil killed farming.
Do you want me to make a post comparing what Cocoa House money did then vs oil money now?

One of the very popular Pyrex plates that was popular in Nigeria right from the 1970s.
We had same color and set like this.
Best served with jollof rice with big goat meat.
Wrapped with white cloth placed into a tray to deliver to neighbors those day during Xmas, Salah or Easter.
Naija sweet that year.
We loved to deliver cos 5 Naira was sure as messenger.
Breaking this at home as a child was a taboo.

Lie of the decade busted. Julius Berger.
What we heard many decades ago was that Julius Berger died and was buried in Nigeria near a bridge at Epe.
All that lie busted when I started doing what I do best, researching.
Amongst my friends, I was the first to burst the lie, they thought I was going crazy but they too found out what I had known years before.
The real story be this.
Julius Berger was born in 1862 in Zempelburg, a small town in the Germany Poland area, to parents of Jewish descent.
His father sent him to Berlin at the age of 12 to take up an apprenticeship with a leather wholesale firm. He later went into transportation business, then he began carrying building materials.
Na there him sabi construction work well well and in 1905 he founded his own company, Julius Berger Civil Engineering AG.
Company blow, dem dey build railroads, drainage and roads for Prussia, Turkey, Iran, Romania and Egypt.
Then Second World War happen.
As a German Jew, Nazis target am.
Business shut down. Him and him wife dem catch dem, throw dem for concentration camp.
Na there him die for 1942, him and him wife, dem die of hunger and exhaustion inside camp, among the millions of Jews wey die for Holocaust.
He never die for Epe.
No mammy water collect him life.
After war, the company was revived, come Nigeria in 1965 and build Eko Bridge, later follow build phase 2 of Third Mainland Bridge and many more.
Make we tell our children true history abeg.

π¨ OFFICIAL: Hansi Flick has called up Alex Campos for the PSG game.
Campos is 18, captains Spainβs youth team and shares the spotlight with Hafez Ghriba in BarΓ§a AtlΓ¨ticβs midfield. But Flick picked him because Ghriba isnβt registered for the Champions League.
What you might not know is that Campos can play both as a defensive midfielder and a centre-back at a high level. Heβs excellent on the ball, a quality passer, strong in the press and physical duels, and has the build to win challenges and recover possession.
