Will be interesting to see how AI boosters deal with the frontier labs business model issues while they try to remain bullish on semi's and other AI infra areas
Unless I'm very much mistaken, aren't AI data centers the very definition of self-liquidating assets? At least in theory.

Hey! There's a bubble. Yep, the largest company on earth needs to borrow $500B, that's right, a $5T needs the largest financing deal in WallSt history to fund itself. The whole thing smell like dog shit. It's over. All of it.
BREAKING: A consortium of Private Equity firms are putting together a deal to lend Nvidia $500B
Apollo, Blackstone, Blackrock, Brookfield, Goldman and KKR are involved, in what is arguably is the largest financing deal ever on Wall Street.

They all put time aside today to announce they DIDN’T do a $500B deal. I’m telling you. Today was the biggest eye opener for me. Been reading all the bearish takes for a year now. But today I went WTF did I just see.
This deal is stargate 2, another $500bn “announcement” that never really happened. Dunno why I’m surprised people fall for this every time lol. Blackstone and blackrock especially are already in a bunch of DC deals. They’ll just claim every one they do now is part of this

"The bank of Nvidia creates a protective financing moat for the chipmaker, while fueling credit risk by lending to customers. Nvidia is cutting a lot of checks and a lot of commitments with finite free cash flow to an industry driven more by efficiency of the technology and struggling for meaningful monetization. That brings focus back onto the circular deals underpinning the AI boom" - Panmure Liberum

NVDA Credit Warning ⚠️
“Five-year Nvidia CDS widened to roughly 77.5 bp on Monday, even as broader investment-grade spreads remain comparatively contained.”-/Brendan Fagan, Bloomberg
Let’s see how this market decides just how much this matters…
I have my doubts, especially for longer term investors.

Anyone else notice Jensen Huang announced a $500 billion Nvidia circular financing deal today and their stock price went nowhere.
Keep in mind, $NVDA 's total 2026 revenue is around $215.94 billion...
Not profit... revenue.

$500bn of Wall St money to help Nvidia's customers buy Nvidia chips. Jensen calls compute "an investable asset." This is the chart nobody put in the press release. NVDA 5Y CDS jumps by almost 6bps. The cost of insuring Nvidia debt has doubled since late May, from 41.6 to 77.5, just shy of the July 29 record at 83.7. That seems strange, b/c Nvidia is generating $500bn in additional demand w/o drawing on its own balance sheet. But it also shows that leverage in AI financing is continuing to rise. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Seriously.
We have Jensen pumping “demand is real” while wearing a new VC hat of vendor financing for a new asset class: “Compute”…
On top of data center CAPEX incentivized by ginormous US tax breaks…
On top of SEC exempting data center debt from key securitization rules…
On top of going to war with Iran…
As if the Trump admin is desperate to generate energy demand or something 🤔
Dude you know those pesky securitization rules that went in place after the 2008 financial meltdown?
Well, the SEC just exempted datacenter debt from key securitization rules
The SEC said a major subset of data-center securitizations don’t need to have disclosures and investor protections that similar deals require. That includes risk retention, a requirement that companies issuing asset-backed securities retain some of the debt to better align their interests with investors. (Bloomberg)

The collaboration between Nvidia and Blackstone, Apollo, BlackRock et al is a memo of understanding (MOU).
Nothing more - and kinda like Nvidia's previous $100 billion investment in OpenAI (which failed to take place)....
Moreover, all the companies in the collab are protecting their current investments in AI which they are all a part of. (h/t @edzitron)

“Nvidia's cash is solid, but it comes from OpenAI and Anthropic spending money they raised, not money customers paid them. Take the fundraising away and the chip profits have nothing underneath them.”
Which is exactly why Vinod Khosla posted this yesterday. The VC’s desperately need this bubble to continue so that OpenAI and Anthropic go public. That’s the only way they get their principal back.
This wasn’t a flex by Vinod, it’s an admission they need more bag holders. 👇🏼
🦔Apollo's chief economist Torsten Slok put hard numbers on something a lot of people have been circling for a while. AI's money runs backward, chipmakers booking huge profits while the model makers bleed, and the profits come from investors rather than customers. Chipmakers earn a 41% profit margin. The model makers like OpenAI and Anthropic run a negative 59% operating margin. His conclusion is that the 41% depends on the negative 59% staying financeable.
My Take
Slok pulled these figures from Pitchbook and Bloomberg, and they match what plenty of people have argued for months. Nvidia's cash is solid, but it comes from OpenAI and Anthropic spending money they raised, not money customers paid them. Take the fundraising away and the chip profits have nothing underneath them. The most profitable layer of this industry depends on the least profitable one raising money it does not earn.
That leaves one question. Can AI start paying off for the companies using it before the money funding all of this runs out? I don't know, and I don't think anyone does yet. For now the margins at the top hold, and the demand under them is borrowed. I wouldn't let the chip profits convince me the boom has proved itself.
