People keep telling me that native apps are much faster than React Native, but I donβt think itβs true. So I built the same app in 9 different desktop frameworks. I found that AppKit is slightly faster/lighter than React Native, but React Native beats SwiftUI by a good margin.
During our @margelo_com team building I made little game as fun side project. Hunt, explore and save Mosswhiskers Meadow through a series of quests.
It's satire on current AI development. Starring @BernieSanders @sama @elonmusk and more.
Link and details in π§΅
It was build using Grok 4.6 and @cursor_ai which also created map editor. That means whole map was build by hand by my girlfriend. Thanks β€οΈ

Iβll be in SF next week!
If anyoneβs around and wants to grab coffee, lunch, or pair program / hack on something together, Iβd love to hang out.

Weβre excited to announce that Margelo has been acquired by Callstack for over EUR 20 million, backed by Viking Global πΎ
Callstack brings a decade of enterprise React Native experience, which is a perfect match when combined with Margelo's deep expert knowledge around architecture and libraries.
Our open-source libraries will of course stay open-source, and we will continue to operate as an agency.
In the future, our team will be doubling down on open-source and Nitro.
π @margelo_com Joins Callstack to Advance High-Performance React Native Engineering
Vienna, Austria. 1 September 2026.Β Callstack, a leader in React Native and cross-platform development, today announced that Margelo, the Vienna-based high-end engineering company behind Nitro Modules, VisionCamera and react-native-mmkv, is joining Callstack in a transaction valuing Margelo at more than EUR 20 million.
Margelo builds high-performance technology for React Native. Nitro Modules (34M downloads) lets developers write fast, type-safe native modules in C++, Swift or Kotlin, and quickly gained widespread traction across the ecosystem. VisionCamera (40M downloads), Margelo's enterprise-grade open-source Camera framework and react-native-mmkv (67M downloads), a key-value storage library, power countless React Native apps today.
Callstack has spent a decade helping large organizations adopt, scale and operate React Native, contributing to the framework and its open-source ecosystem along the way.
Together, the two teams give clients the strongest React Native performance expertise in the market, backed by delivery proven in complex enterprise environments. Margelo's technology and Callstack's delivery experience will now be available to the same clients.
The timing reflects a fundamental change in how software is built. AI is making implementation faster and cheaper, but architecture, performance, native integration, validation and release safety are becoming more important, not less. These are the fundamentals on which both companies have built their reputations and on which they will continue to build together.
"Margelo has built some of the strongest performance technology in React Native. Callstack has spent a decade helping large organizations adopt and scale the framework. Bringing those strengths together gives us the team and reach to solve more of the hard problems that determine whether software succeeds in production," said Mike Grabowski, CEO and Founder of Callstack.
"At Margelo, weβve built high-performance technology that developers already rely on. Weβre excited to partner with Callstack to bring it to more clients and scale its impact. As software development becomes increasingly agentic, we want that technology to provide the foundation teams need to build reliable software with agents," said Marc Rousavy, CEO and Founder of Margelo.
Margelo's existing open-source libraries will remain open source. Marc will continue to lead their development and help shape the combined company's offering.
The transaction follows Callstack's 2025 growth investment and supports its strategy to expand technology and open-source capabilities while growing internationally.
Big News: Margelo has been acquired by @callstackio for over EUR 20 million. π₯³
I founded Margelo 5 years ago, knowing nothing about business - I actually dropped out of economics university after 3 days.
We built our reputation for high-end performance software through open-source libraries like VisionCamera (40M downloads) and react-native-mmkv (67M downloads), and quickly landed high-profile clients like Discord, Coinbase, Expensify and VSCO.
Two years ago we doubled down on mobile architecture with Nitro (34M downloads), which gained rapid adoption in the community and allowed us to bring even more ideas to life.
Iβve been friends with Mike from Callstack for a long time, which makes me even more excited to remain a significant shareholder and bring mobile technology to a whole new level.
I'd like to thank my team for shaping Margelo into what it is today. β€οΈ

I built a @threejs game director skill system for Codex & Claude Code to help agents create more polished playable browser games.
It guides gameplay loops, graphics, HUD/UI, debugging, QA, and optional @tripoai @ElevenLabs @NanoBanana 3D/image/audio assets with API keys.

Four years ago, react-native-quick-crypto was just a way to make crypto faster for wallet apps.
Today, it's grown into one of the most complete crypto implementations for React Native.
Here's what the latest benchmarks look like π

Easily one of the most fun things I've built with the team at @margelo_com, and that's saying something after 4 years here. We basically wrote our own native AV engine with sample-level sync and hardware decode, then got it talking to React Native through Nitro

π Render React components on separate JS Runtimes
π Share state (Zustand) across Runtimes, synced in C++
π Dual-Thread-approach for rendering/business logic
We plugged this into MetaMask which made the app start substantially faster:
Amazing photos from @appjsconf by @jmeistrich. You can feel the vibe!
I have 181 great photos from @appjsconfof all you beautiful people π
Please RT to help get it to everyone in the photos, and tag anyone I missed. I'll post some highlights, but there's tons more in the album.

- Move strings instead of copying them π

Most components are already super fast. The main problem I see in React Native is that we still don't separate business logic from rendering and as JavaScript is single-threaded, both run the same thread.
Json parsing/serialisation, state updates, network calls...
but...
