Pre-set and bows from this evening’s press night for SOME WOMAN at National Theatre Dorfman. Thought provoking and unsettling, with a terrific cast and stunning set design by Rob Jones.

“CADEL: Lungs On Legs”
Simultaneously celebrating its 100th performance and the opening tonight of its 5-week London run at Riverside Studios (after huge success at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer).

Bows from last evening’s performance of THE CHERRY ORCHARD.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ THE CHERRY ORCHARD @HPinterTheatre
A smorgasbord of semi-likeable, oft-irritating, occasionally amusing family members, household familiars and those merely with a vested interest in hanging about for so long as it is expedient.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FENCES
at @LyricHammer
August Wilson’s FENCES is one of a handful of truly great, late 20th century plays, due to its ability to capture and convey the bitter disappointment which underpins “The American Dream”.

August Wilson would be very proud. Great job. I’m in agreement with @alunjohnhood - Madeline Appiah was made to play the part of Rose. #FENCES

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ RENT at Tom Stoppard Theatre.
Is it as good as the Broadway original or the late 90s transfer to the Shaftesbury Theatre? Debatable. Is it a terrific piece with notable performances from a talented cast? Hell yeah!

In the West End for RENT at The Tom Stoppard Theatre. Expecting great things.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ BLOOD OF MY BLOOD at Royal Court.
Tilda Swinton’s star billing may be pulling ‘em in at the bigger space but with humanity and supernatural edginess in plentiful supply, this proved genuinely compelling.

My PRE-SHOW wine.
In all my years at this reviewing malarkey, tonight was the first time a bar person pointed out to me that the voucher I’d been given for a drink should only be used at the interval rather than used before the performance. You can imagine my opinion on that!
Netflix is currently screening this, and for tennis fans of a certain vintage (like myself), it really is a marvellous, if occasionally upsetting, watch.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ AFFLUENZA at Riverside Studios
“…a rock solid premise and strong opening, meanders into surreal territory with clunkily-written linking scenes and an over-egged Reality TV segment.”

⭐️⭐️ BULL at Park Theatre.
My review from this evening’s press night. A thoroughly commendable effort to bring the play to a broader audience through BSL. Unfortunately, Bartlett’s bullying play remains ugly and unpalatable.

Park Theatre this evening for Mike Bartlett’s BULL, with a twist.
